Just got paid, Friday night
Party hoppin’, feelin right
Booties shakin’, all around
Pump that jam, while I’m gettin’ down
The Caps played host to the Ducks and played their second tight game in as many nights. I wanted a 7-5 mess with like 35 minutes in penalties and multiple pulled goalies, but instead I got this. I should start covering lacrosse.
We nearly went twenty minutes without a goal, but Ryan KESLER converted a power play while Alex Ovechkin was in the box. The Caps equalized in the second period after Troy Brouwer’s hero move. John Carlson shocked Bryzgalov to put the Caps ahead in the third. Corey Perry beat Hershey’s Philipp Grubauer at the post to even the score in the final ten minutes and force overtime. Overtime was useless, so let’s do the biscuits.
Shootout bullets!
- Kuznetsov put the biscuit in the basket. Five hole baby.
- Silver Bird put the biscuit in the basket.
- Backstrom put the biscuit in the basket.
- Perry did NOT put the biscuit in the basket.
- Ovi did NOT put the biscuit in the basket.
- Kesler did NOT put the biscuit in the basket!
Caps beat Ducks 3-2 in the shootout!
- Won it for B-Man.
- To be honest, I’m bummed about the Justin Peters situation, but I’m a believer in Philipp Grubauer. Grubi was rock solid for most of his first NHL appearance in 11 months, but his positioning on that Corey Perry goal was just no good. If Peters did that, the comments would be a bloodbath. Grubi beat Perry in the gimmick though.
- I don’t know when I’ll get over Troy Brouwer‘s dive to keep the puck in the zone before Chimera scored, but it hasn’t happened yet. I love that play– distinctly more than I love him shanking it on that breakaway in the second period but slightly more than I love him giving Bryzgalov no spaaaaaaaaaaaace on Carlson’s goal. B-man had a good night.
- Bruce Boudreau helped create the force of nature we know as Alex Ovechkin, which might have been why the Ducks were all over Ovi tonight. Anaheim players rebuffed six Ovi shots and kept him to only a couple on net– and none from the Ovi spot, perhaps because PPQB Mike Green was laid up with leg injury.
- Maybe the only reason I noticed Ovi getting creamed in the offensive zone is because he was always in the offensive zone. Marcus Johansson is helping the top line look pretty good. Pretty, pretty good.
- Add two more primary apples to Evgeny Kuznetsov‘s recent string of games. He had a hand in the Caps’ first two goals tonight and had quite a few dirty dangles on his stick. He’s Practically Dominating Out there.

- Also with a good game: Jason Chimera, who hasn’t had a multi-point game since the early 80s. I don’t think the cheetah will scratch again anytime soon.
- Ushanka, I shanka, we all shanka.

- Boudreau’s face after John Carlson‘s sneaky goal makes me a happy hockey fan. He turned a shade of purple I can only describe as bordeaux.
- We are 44 shots into Brooks Orpik season and we’ve yet to have a scoarpik. He’s gonna make it count when it finally happens.
- You knew Ovi wouldn’t score in the shootout. Every OTHER game.

Joe B suit of the night: ludicrous speed! They’ve gone plaid!
Have a great Friday night, RMNBers! Make it a good one.
