Alex Ovechkin On If He Could Win Hardest Shot Competition: “My Shot Is Muffin”

Before the All-Star Skills Competition began, Alex Ovechkin was interviewed by NHL Network’s Andi Petrillo out on the ice. It became another classic Ovi interview.

When the Russian machine was asked if he could potentially overtake Shea Weber, he modestly replied, “No, my shot is muffin.”

Of course I had to Vine it.

The first time we heard this phrase uttered around these parts was in January 2013 when John Erskine ended a two year long goal drought.

Erskine explained to reporters after that game, “I was going to unleash the big cannon first and then [a defender] got in the lane so I just threw a little muffin and good stuff happens.”

Ovechkin also had a humorous response on who he thought was the best player on the ice this weekend.

Oh, Ovi.
