Steve Oleksy Ran the Verizon Center Stairs Before the Caps Played the Flyers (Photo)

Steve Oleksy was only supposed be with the Caps for a day. But after Nate Schmidt’s brief sojourn to the Bears turned into a multi-month absence, Steve O is here for the foreseeable future. He just won’t be playing in many games, if any at all. Still, Oleksy has to be ready.

Before taking warmups with the team on Wednesday, I spotted him running the stairs in the lower bowl of Verizon Center before it opened to the fans. Later, I caught up with him in the press box as I was finishing my dinner of Fruit Roll-Ups, Smarties, Ritz Bits, and a doughnut, which he said contained “all the food groups.” For some reason, however, I don’t think I’m cut out to be a professional athlete just yet.
