For once, it’s not our team that’s the hot wreck. The Capitals, with their stable coach and winning record and improving possession, traveled to Toronto last night in anticipation of tonight’s game against the Maple Leafs, who just fired coach Randy Carlyle and are currently in the process of deciding whether or not they should maybe eat their young.

I’ve actually met the guy a few times. Our local politics is so much more fun– just in case any more national media dudes wanna drop in for more stories. I promise there’s more good stuff waiting.
Storylines
- This will be Toronto’s first game without Randy Carlyle.
- We stand with Phil Kessel, who is a talented offensive player facing unfair and dishonest scrutiny, in case any of that sounds familiar.
- Matt Niskanen‘s hurt, wait, no he’s not, he’s a game-time decision, much like my decision to get a burrito or pizza for dinner.
- Trotz is keeping Andre Burakovsky at top-line wing for now, mostly because he’s worried about what Ian is going to tweet about it next.
- The Capitals’ PK isn’t as good as promised. Why?
- Healthy Brooks Laich is positively killing it lately. I’m not sure how reliable War on Ice’s scoring chance stat is yet, but Brooks is ruling that roost.
What You’re Missing on TV Tonight
Empire on Fox. A music mogul plans for the future of his empire after learning he has a disease in the series premiere of this drama, which follows his struggle to choose an heir as his three sons and his ex-wife battle each other to take over the hip-hop throne.
Wait, is this like an adaptation The Lion in Winter or some kind of mash-up with King Lear? And it’s written by Danny Strong (who played Jonathan on Buffy)? Okay, maybe I’m in.
