After Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored his first career Winter Classic goal, his luck went to hell. First, he stopped a clearing attempt with his throat. Then, to start the second period, the Russian machine hit the post on two consecutive shots.
First, Ovechkin got denied on a semi-breakaway by Corey Crawford. As the rebound bounced into the air, the Russian machine bunted the puck with the shaft of his stick. It hit the post. C’mon.
Thirty-three seconds later and on the game’s next shot attempt, Ovechkin hit the crossbar. I’m declaring this a Winter Classic record for unluckiness.
The Blackhawks would score to tie the game at 2 a few minutes later. Dammit. This could become a big storyline later.
