This morning, Washington Capitals skaters practiced in their blue Winter Classic pants, red helmets, and red socks. That’s cool, but take a closer look at Braden Holtby. The Holtbeast wore his custom catching glove, blocker, and pads for the Classic and they are awesome. Also, his new helmet.
The bucket’s design includes the Caps Winter Classic logo and also honors Caps great Olie Kolzig. Godzilla wore a mask with the same Uncle Sam design when he first broke into the league in the early 90’s.

And just for comparison’s sake, here’s Kolzig’s old mask.
Now let’s take a look at Holtby’s vintage-designed catching glove, blocker, and pads. They are tan with red details. The design looks especially fantastic on the pads where there are vertical red lines. It makes the pads look slender, reminiscent of the narrower pads of the past.

Here’s another look from the Caps.
So Braden Holtby will be looking good New Year’s Day.
