The United States normalized its relations with Cuba, The Interview was cancelled due to hacking and terrorist threats, and the Washington friggin’ Capitals and Florida Panthers set an NHL record for the longest shootout. These were the headlines of the NBC Nightly News on Wednesday, December 17, 2014.
When I heard the Caps mentioned, I nearly had an accident. I’m guessing this is the first time the Caps were on the nightly news. Anchor Brian Williams spoke about the “harrowing tie-breaker hockey” as Joe Beninati’s call of the game could be heard in the background.
I found video of the entire broadcast, but unfortunately the Caps mention was edited out. C’mon, NBC. It’s way more important than that plane turbulence story.
And then I got a few photos and found this tweet, thereby saving this post.
