Midway through the second period, the Capitals faced a daunting challenge. Alex Ovechkin and Mike Green got whistled for penalties, giving Tampa a full two-minute five-on-three power play.
No matter, Braden Holtby was up for the challenge, making one of the most brilliant saves of the year.
As Valtteri Filppula took a shot from the right circle, the rebound squirted to Ryan Callahan. Brooks Orpik tied Callahan up to slow the show to a dribble. Holtby turned around to stop the puck with his stick.
We need to see this from the goal cam.
The Caps would kill off the rest of the penalty and score a few minutes later, riding the momentum of the kill. That’s good hockey and the biggest moment of the game so far.
