I’m always looking for reasons to fall in love with this team. One email in particular gave me fuzzy feelings this week.
Marissa R. took her son and his friend to Kettler Capitals Iceplex to watch a morning skate. Afterwards, they ran into new Caps Brooks Orpik and Matt Niskanen.
It was a notable experience for a few reasons, but look at what Orpik is wearing. Someone’s been shopping.
Last month, I was dismayed by Orpik wearing a shirt that celebrated Pittsburgh sports to his first Washington media time. In the photo above, Orpik is wearing a Redskins-inspired t-shirt designed by a local skateboarding company, Washington Palace 5ive. While that might open up a whole new can of worms, at least it’s about the right city this time. All is forgiven.
Marissa got a cool souvenir too. After Niskanen posed for a photo with her son and his friend, he agreed to sign Marissa’s Deadguins shirt. (That’s our shirt poking fun at the Capitals biggest rival and Niskanen’s former team.)
A good sport who is good at sports.
