Win this autographed Mike Green jersey by making a small donation to the Fisher House.
Editor’s note: RMNB reader Katie Sieck needs your help for a real good cause that we’ve discussed here before. Everyone who donates $20 or more has a chance to win some cool Caps loot, so donate and help her out. Katie takes it from here.
In just a few weeks, I’ll be running through the streets of Arlington and DC during the 39th Marine Corps Marathon with 30,000 of my closest friends. I thought that the best way to celebrate running my first marathon would be to run as a member of a charity team that supported members of our military and their families. Many of my family members and friends have served our country in the military, and some continue to serve—it was an easy decision. I’m running “The People’s Marathon” with Team Fisher House and the Fisher House Foundation.
If you support me and this worthy cause, you could win an autographed Mike Green jersey, a 2011 Winter Classic baseball cap, and a 2011 Winter Classic knit hat.
The Fisher House Foundation enables military family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times – during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury. Our military families already face uncertainty with uncommon grace, but in times of crisis, there should be no question that they should be together. The Fisher House Foundation donates “comfort homes,” built on the grounds of every major military medical center, where families stay for free during their loved one’s care.
Fisher Houses serve more than 22,000 military families each year across the country and overseas. While each story is unique, each patient needs loved ones close by because. . .“A Family’s Love is Good Medicine.”
To give some background, I was suddenly hospitalized with blood clots in my lungs and in my leg a few years ago. My family lives on the other side of country, so in a medical emergency, I was sick, scared, and alone. Finding out that my mom was able to make the trip seemed to make my hospital stay and subsequent recovery 100% better. Though blood clots are small potatoes in comparison to what many of our injured service members face, I know how important family is in a medical emergency.
I’ve already pledged to personally cover my fundraising commitment for the race ($600), but I want to do more for the Fisher House Foundation and our military families.
I have a lot of random Caps gear just collecting dust in my closet, and I figured that it would all do more serving as raffle-style prizes for donations to my Team Fisher House fundraising campaign.
So, I’m asking you Caps fans—help me support this incredible cause!
After MCM, I’ll put all of the entries into a hat and draw the winners in a video I’ll post on my Instagram (@katerstheace) and on my Twitter (@katerstheace), and then mail the prizes to their respective winners.
There will be three “big” winners… an autographed Mike Green jersey, a 2011 Winter Classic baseball cap, and a 2011 Winter Classic knit hat.
Beyond those prizes, I have other small prizes:
I have a ton stuff that I’m willing to part with in order to support Fisher House Foundation and their awesome mission.
Let’s do something great for Fisher House Foundation, Caps fans!
