Burakovsky celebrates his goal.
Just one day after snapping a three-game pointless streak, Capitals prospect Andre Burakovsky added two more points, a goal and an assist, to his playoff stat line. In doing so, Burakovsky helped the Erie Otters to a series win over the Greyhounds.
Sault Ste. Marie, facing elimination, got the lead early on a goal by Oilers first-round pick Darnell Nurse. They extended it early in the second period as Hurricanes prospect Sergei Tolchinsky increased Erie’s deficit to two. Connor McDavid took a goal back at the midpoint.
Erie entered the third period down by one goal. Three penalties in the final stanza limited their comeback effort, but that’s when Burakovsky worked his magic. A long range shot by Kurtis MacDermid led to a scramble in front of the net. Burakovsky put the puck in the net.
In overtime Burakovsky started a play finished by Joel Wigle, who capped off a breakaway with a backhand between the pads of Matt Murray. Erie swept Soo 4 games to none and will now face the winner of the London-Guelph series, where Guelph currently holds the 2-1 lead.
Burakovsky’s goal is at the 1:00 mark.
With eight goals in nine games, Burakovsky holds the lead in playoff goal scoring, having broken a tie with his teammate Dane Fox.
