October 30, 1993. It was a Saturday. Clinton was President. Mariah Carey’s “Dreamlover” was in its final day as the number one song in the country. (Meat Loaf’s “I Would Do Anything For Love” would take over the next day.) Fox TV had just entered its first year broadcasting every day, airing The X-Files just one night earlier (a pretty meh episode if you ask me). That “Got Milk?” commercial with the guy with peanut-butter mouth aired for the first time a night before. The Nightmare Before Christmas had just debuted in theaters and Tim Burton had already begun hoarding credit. River Phoenix died.
And the Washington Capitals beat the Sharks for the last time in San Jose.
On Saturday, March 22nd, the Capitals will return to San Jose hoping to snap their 21-year slump. And we’ll be watching from RFD Washington. Won’t you join us?
That’s right: At long last, here comes #RMNBParty6!
RSVP for #RMNBParty6 on Facebook!
WHO: If you’re 21 or older, hopefully you! Plus the RMNB crew and a couple hundred other Caps fans.
WHAT: A viewing party for Washington Capitals at San Jose Sharks.
WHERE: RFD Washington, 810 7th Street NW, Washington, DC 20001 — just one block from Verizon Center!
WHEN: Saturday, March 22. 8:30 PM until whenever. The game starts at 10:30 PM.
WHY: Well, that’s a bit complicated…
For starters, we haven’t thrown a party since June of 2012. Second, we need a little levity near the end of this downer of a season. Third, we’ve done a lot of growing in the last two years and we want to see all your lovely faces. (Ian wants to hug you; I do not). Fourth, who cares why? It’s Saturday. You don’t need an excuse to party! Let’s party!
We’ll be tweeting from the game, shooting video, covering the game, and a lot more silly stuff. It’ll all be on the #RMNBParty6 hashtag.
If you’re not familiar, RFD is a terrific bar right in the heart of Chinatown. They’ve got a huge beer selection and some serious tater tots. The good people at RFD have been nice enough to let us use their back room for the party. That’s exactly where we’ll be, making merry, watching the game, cheering on the boys, and maybe even setting up some more RMNB love connections.
Past RMNB parties have become the stuff of legend. This one will be no different. Get yourself in your Caps gear (or maybe an RMNB t-shirt </shamelessplug>), and get your behind to RFD on Saturday night. Let’s crash the net together. Let’s watch the Caps snap this stupid streak together.
Everyone 21 or older is invited. If you’re a Caps fan, you are invited. Even if you’re a Bruins fan, you are invited. If you drink awful InBev beer, you are invited. If you are a teetotaler, you are invited. If you are a housebound agraphobe, you are invited. If you wear a fanny pack, you are invited. If you don’t like the word rego, you are invited. If you blog for another site, you are invited.
This means you: You are invited.
See you there.
To all our underage friends: we still love you. We promise to throw an all-ages party soon. In the meantime, we’re open to the idea of a meet-up/hangout before the party. Perhaps dinner at The Greene Turtle? What do you think?
