2013 second-round selection Madison Bowey has been named captain for the Kelowna Rockets. Bowey, veteran of two WHL seasons with Kelowna, had been one of three players wearing the ‘A’ on his jersey for the first part of the season. Friday’s game against Prince George Cougars was his first as captain.
The Rockets currently lead the B.C. Division with 22 points in 14 games. Bowey has 16 points in 14 games played, good to tie for eighth place among WHL’s blueliners.
In his first game as a captain, a 7-6 shootout win over Prince George Cougars in which the Cougars came back from a 2-6 deficit, Bowey recorded three assists. The first one came just 37 seconds into the contest.
Bowey has succeeded Colton Sissons as a captain in Kelowna. Sissons, a 2012 second-round pick, was assigned to the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals by the Nashville Predators.
18-year-old Bowey is one of two Caps prospects wearing the ‘C’ for their respective WHL teams: 2012 seventh-round selection defenseman Jaynen Rissling serves as captain for the Calgary Hitmen. One more, Chandler Stephenson of the Regina Pats, is the alternate captain for his squad.
