This game is older than me.
“It’s not what you wear, but how you wear it,” Washington Capitals defenseman Steve Oleksy said of Mike Green last month, as he talked about the team’s best dressed player. On a team with Russians in oversized sweatshorts featuring massive corporate logos, Green’s style of faux hawks and Oxfords stands out for its understated elegance.
Now, Greenie wants to bring some that swag to your pathetic wardrobe. As we noted last spring, he came out with his own clothing line, with the first run selling out in days. One of the latest additions, though, deserves special attention: Green’s very own “Game Over” shirt, a reference to the nickname coined due to his remarkable record of ending sudden-death match-ups.
On the front, the shirt features a depiction of Green straight out of NHL 94, which is, like, super awesome. The back continues with the old school Nintendo theme. Ian, a designer himself, got out his credit card in about 11 seconds.
We swear this is not an advertising supplement, but Green’s merchandise is available here.
Russian Machine Never Breaks is not associated with the Washington Capitals; Monumental Sports, the NHL, or its properties. Not even a little bit.
