Capitals Sign Mikhail Grabovski
ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have signed center Mikhail Grabovski to a one-year, $3 million contract, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
The Capitals will make vice president and general manager George McPhee available to the media today at 12:30 p.m. at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.
“Mikhail adds speed and offense to our lineup, and we are very pleased to have him sign with the Capitals,” said McPhee. “We believe he will be an excellent addition to our club.”
Grabovski, 29, recorded 16 points (nine goals, seven assists) and 24 penalty minutes in 48 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season. During the 2011-12 season, Grabovski registered 51 points (23 goals, 28 assists) and 51 penalty minutes in 74 games with Toronto. He ranked third on the team in goals and points. The 5’11”, 183-pound center posted career marks during the 2010-11 campaign when he recorded 58 points (29 goals, 29 assists) and 60 penalty minutes in 81 games with the Leafs. Grabovski has collected 217 points (94 goals, 123 assists) and 245 penalty minutes in 367 career NHL games with Toronto and Montreal.
The native of Minsk, Belarus was Montreal’s fifth-round choice, 150th overall, in the 2004 Entry Draft.
