Alex Ovechkin already owns the Capitals’ franchise record for overtime game-winning goals, and he extended that record tonight with his overtime winner against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Ovechkin now has 12 career OTGWG, including two in the last five games, the most of any player since he entered the league.
Dmitry Orlov set up the OT goal, freezing the Lightning defense before passing to Ovechkin, Russian-to-Russian, who snapped a wristshot past Tokarski to win the game. The Caps’ captain then skated across the ice, jumped into the boards, and bam, you’re in a good mood for the next twenty-four hours.
This was Ovechkin’s third game-winning goal of the season, and the 55th of his career. Have you hugged your captain today?
