Jay Beagle and flying pucks do not go well together. First, he broke his hand when some frozen vulcanized rubber hit him in the hand behind the net, sidelining him for months. Now, in the second to last game of the season, Beagle has been injured again.

Scrappy, recently suspended Zach Sill just scored one of the weirdest goals I’ve ever seen.
You may not have heard, but Capitals center Zach Sill has been suspended two games for boarding Boston’s Adam McQuaid. The news was buried by an afternoon of crazy wild hockey news which included Nicklas Backstrom being named to his first All-Star Game, the Caps signing Mike Richards, and Nashville trading Seth Jones to Columbus for Ryan Johansen.
As the Capitals finished off their ninth straight win on Wednesday, the sellout crowd roared in approval of the NHL’s best team. But 20 minutes later, there were only hushed gasps from the press corps as head coach Barry Trotz explained how costly Washington’s 28th had been.
Jay Beagle, who left the game with 5:52 left in the second period, will need upper-body surgery. Though Trotz refused to say what the injury was, the coach said Washington’s third line center, who has tallied six goals this season, will be out “for an extended period of time.” He is expected to be placed on injured reserve shortly.

Caps forward Michael Latta will not play in Wednesday’s rematch against the Buffalo Sabres at Verizon Center. Latta injured himself Monday night in Buffalo during a fight with Nicolas Deslauriers. After the game, Barry Trotz said Latta had an arm injury.
While speaking to reporters Tuesday in Hershey, Bears head coach Troy Mann revealed that veteran Zach Sill would make his Capitals debut Wednesday and play in Latta’s place.
