The Washington Capitals got right back on track with two more standings points after a disappointing loss in New Jersey to kick off their season-long road trip. The Caps scored early and often against the Vancouver Canucks, securing an eventual 5-1 victory.
A rather encouraging performance.

The Washington Capitals’s trip through the pacific northwest began with a comfortable win over the blighted Vancouver Canucks.
Alex Ovechkin scored two goals early – one off a turnover and then another set up by Strome. Nils Hoglander flashed a fancy backhander to make it to 2-1, but a hard forecheck from Lars Eller helped Mantha to score, then John Carlson capped off a good shooting session to make it 4-1 after two periods. Martin Fehervary added an empty-netter.

The Washington Capitals are playing Game 2 of their season-long, six-game road trip where tonight they will take on the Vancouver Canucks. They are coming off a 5-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils that looked better on stat websites than in the eyes.
What to watch for? The Capitals, who have long been great playing away from Capital One Arena, are one of the worst teams in the NHL on the road this season, posting a 2-7-2 record away from Capital One Arena.
Alex Ovechkin (401) is one goal away from tying Wayne Gretzky’s NHL road goals record (402). “Oh… no!” Bruce Boudreau said when asked about that by Tarik El-Bashir.
Erik Gustafsson was on the ice for three goals against New Jersey. He will once again play on the first pairing with John Carlson, which is definitely a high-event pairing!
Darcy Kuemper will oppose Spencer Martin in net as Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko sits again.
Puck drop is a little after 10 pm on NBC Sports Washington. Crash the bed / Snoar moar goals… or something!
Vancouver Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau won his 600th career game in the NHL Thursday when his Canucks team took down the Seattle Kraken 5-4. Boudreau had to wait longer than he would have wanted for the milestone as Vancouver dropped their first seven games of the season.
Still, the former Washington Capitals bench boss reached the 600-win mark the second-fastest of any head coach in NHL history.

The Vancouver Canucks lost last night. Again. It was their six loss in six games, with two of those losses coming in overtime. The Canucks have blown many leads in this young season, giving up more goals (12) while leading than any team in the NHL. (Actually, after Saturday night, the Kings joined them in last place.)
The Canucks blew a 3-0 lead over Edmonton in the season opener. Then they blew a 2-0 lead to the Flyers. Then they blew a 4-2 lead to your Washington Capitals. Then they blew a 2-0 lead to the Blue Jackets. Then they blew a 2-1 lead to the Wild. Those were all consecutive games, and all of them came on the road. The Canucks returned home on Saturday night and they did not blow a lead – instead they got blown out by the Buffalo Sabres, a team bound for the draft lottery.
So, yes. The fans booed.

The Washington Capitals found a big ole comeback and took down the Vancouver Canucks on Monday inside of Capital One Arena. The boys were down 4-2 and scored four unanswered to secure a 6-4 victory.
Not exactly the way you want to win but still great fun nonetheless.

For those of you who like roller coasters, Monday’s Capitals-Canucks game was for you.
The cross-conference matchup featured four different lead changes and two Alex Ovechkin goals (no. 781 & 782). After Vancouver scored three consecutive goals in the second period, the Capitals responded with four unanswered of their own to win 6-4.
There were goals at the ends of periods. There were goals at the beginning of periods. There were skill goals and power-play goals. There were weird bounces off the endboards. The game had just about everything — except solid goaltending and good defense.
The Washington Capitals came back from behind to down the Vancouver Canucks. It was an ugly game with a happy ending.
Alex Ovechkin scored first, a power-play marker with some help off Thatcher Demko’s pads. Elias Pettersson got a softie late in the period after Darcy Kuemper’s misplay, but Lars Eller returned fire scant seconds into the second period. Bo Horvat got a rebound to tie it up again, then Curtis Lazar turned an unlikely deflection into a go-ahead goal for Vancouver. JT Miller converted a power play that might come back to bite Evgeny Kuznetsov, and the Canucks led 4-2 going into the third.
Dylan Strome got a power-play goal early in the third, then John Carlson threw a nasty shot at Demko’s short-side to tie it up with eleven minutes left. Then, Alex Ovechkin served a perfect pass to Conor Sheary for the game-winner. Alex Ovechkin added another for good measure.
Caps win.

The Washington Capitals got their first win of the season against the Habs on Saturday. Now, can they turn that W into a streak?
They’ll try to do so against Bruce Boudreau’s Vancouver Canucks who are in town and desperate for a victory. Just like the Caps, the Canucks lost their first two games of the season, which includes an embarrassing L to the lowly Flyers on Saturday.
What to look for? Alex Ovechkin is goalless through the first three games of the season. And after a lot of thorough research, we learned it means… absolutely nothing! (Which is actually a good thing.) Ovechkin has been notoriously unstoppable against Boudreau teams in the past. Are we in for one of those signature Ovi performances?
Evgeny Kuznetsov may not play due to the dreaded and undefinable “maintenance” classification. If The Kuz can’t take the ice, Connor McMichael will get a jersey for the first time this season.
The Capitals will be wearing their navy blue alternates for the first time this season. I always tell my friends that if they say something positive out loud every day, they will start to believe it and it’ll become true – though that advice hasn’t always worked with these W sweaters.

When the Vancouver Canucks hired Bruce Boudreau midseason to be their head coach, Boudreau signed a two-year contract with the owner Francesco Aquilini but that second season was optional.
Boudreau wanted a contract extension. But after the Canucks denied that request, Bruce had until June 1 to decide if he wanted to leave for another team or return.
Friday, May 13, the Canucks officially announced the gregarious head coach would return.
Bruce, there it is.
