Not only is Connor McMichael good at hockey, but he’s also a fancypants.
A day after scoring a goal and tallying three points against Germany, the Capitals’ top prospect utilized the skill stick on a semi breakaway against Team Slovakia.
Team Germany, who was playing their second game in consecutive nights and had only 14 skaters due to an outbreak of COVID-19, got destroyed by defending champion Team Canada on Saturday. Germany lost 16-2 and was outshot 44-15.
Canada got goals from 10 different players, including Capitals’ 2019 first-round pick Connor McMichael. McMichael scored Canada’s 16th goal of the game and assisted on two other tallies to post three points in his debut game of the tournament.
Canada was led by Dylan Cozens’s three goals and three assists. During the second period, they set the IIHF WJC record for most goals in one period (8).
Connor McMichael is a Connor McCaptain.
On Saturday, before the team’s first game of the 2021 World Junior Championship against Germany, Canada named the Capitals’ top prospect an alternate captain.
“Per @IIHFHockey rules, @BowenByram and @Dylan_Cozens will take turns wearing the “C”, and @con91mcmichael will serve as a full-time alternate. Despite being unable to play, @kdach77 will remain Team Canada captain.”
Kirby Dach’s injury will ultimately be Connor McMichael’s gain.
A day after announcing that Dach would miss the entire 2021 World Junior Championship due to a fractured wrist, Team Canada moved McMichael out of their bottom six and will have the Capitals’ blue-chipper center the first line.
Canada plays Germany at 4 PM on Saturday – their first game of the WJC. Canada is trying to repeat as champions.
Connor McMichael’s talent is undeniable at 19. The Capitals’ first-round pick was invited to Canada’s World Junior selection camp late last month. The center is nearly a lock to make the team again and will likely be a big say on if Canada repeats as champions.
During Canada’s first intrasquad scrimmage, McMichael played on the first line and scored a goal.
Sunday, McMichael skated on the left wing of the first line along with Dylan Cozens and Graeme Clarke. The Capitals top prospect had several good chances including an impressive behind-the-back pass at full speed in the neutral zone.
Team Canada’s Under-20 selection camp for this year’s World Junior Championship is fully underway with the first of three intrasquad scrimmages. Saturday night saw Capitals 2019 first-round selection Connor McMichael start on Team White’s top-line left-wing, while Caps 2020 first-round selection Hendrix Lapierre got going as Team Red’s fourth-line center.
Both players had strong games, but McMichael was the only one to find the scoresheet with Team White’s final goal in a 4-2 victory over Team Red.

Capitals top prospects Connor McMichael and Hendrix Lapierre were named to Team Canada’s World Junior selection camp on Thursday.
The forwards are two of 46 players named to the nearly month-long camp which will run from November 16 to December 13 in Red Deer, Alberta.

Washington Capitals 2019 first-round pick, Connor McMichael, was one of eight Team Canada players that were honored before the start of the Toronto Maple Leafs-Winnipeg Jets game on Wednesday.
McMichael, along with Kevin Bahl (ARI ’18), Nico Daws (’20), Ty Dellandrea (DAL ’18), Jamie Drysdale (’20), Aidan Dudas (LAK ’18), Liam Foudy (CBJ ’18), and Akil Thomas (LAK ’18), dropped the ceremonial first puck between Jets captain Mark Scheifele and Leafs captain John Tavares.
Connor McMichael started off the scoring in the Canada-Finland WJC semifinal game, Saturday.
McMichael’s tally began a four-goal first period for Canada, which included three goals in the first 3:55 of the game. It was the most goals Finland had given up all tournament long.
Connor McMichael scored his second goal of the World Junior Championship on Thursday.
The Capitals 2019 first-round pick dented the twine in the second period to give Canada a 2-0 lead. The goal would end up being the game-winner in Team Canada’s 6-1 quarterfinal win over Slovakia.
