Capitals hang out with fans at Topgolf for charity event ‘Wish Upon A Par’ (Photos)

On Monday, the Capitals spent their day at Topgolf for Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic’s Wish Upon A Par. The event gave Caps fans a unique opportunity to spend the day eating and golfing with their favorite players while raising funds for a fantastic non-profit organization. Many of the Wish Kids from Hockey Fights Cancer month attended and were reunited with their players.

The cherry on top was the beautiful 65 degree weather. Check out our favorite photos below. You’re going to love the Swede pics.

Braden Holtby, Tom Wilson, Taylor Chorney, and Brett Connolly are vacationing together in Turks and Caicos

On Monday, we learned that a few Caps are vacationing together at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. Today, several other teammates revealed that they were beaching it up together during the Caps’ bye week too.

Tom Wilson and his girlfriend Taylor Pischke, Taylor Chorney and his wife Haley, Brett Connolly and his fiancée Katrina, and Braden Holtby and his wife Brandi are all vacationing together in Turks and Caicos.

“Not much #Eddie #Turks #CoupleDucks,” Wilson wrote in a caption dripping with inside jokes.

You can go golfing with the Caps in team’s latest charity event, ‘Wish Upon A Par’

Tuesday morning, the Capitals announced that then will be hosting a new charity event this month, the Wish Upon a Par golf tournament. Wish Upon a Par will be held on Monday, February 20, at Top Golf in Ashburn, Virginia. Tickets are now on sale and include food, two and a half hours of golfing, a silent auction, and the chance to win various prizes. VIP tickets are also available. All proceeds will go to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation Mid-Atlantic.

Capitals players in attendance will include Karl Alzner, Nicklas Backstrom, Andre Burakovsky, John Carlson, Taylor Chorney, Brett Connolly, Philipp Grubauer, Marcus Johansson, Matt Niskanen, Brooks Orpik, TJ Oshie, Nate Schmidt, Justin Williams, Tom Wilson, and Daniel Winnik. Alumnus Rod Langway will also be in attendance.

This event joins the team’s many charitable events, such as Capitals Casino Night, Courage Caps, Better Halves Gift Baskets, and various seasonal jersey auctions.

Saturday Practice Photos: Braden Holtby playfully slashes Nate Schmidt after scoring

The Washington Capitals held an optional practice in front of a full house, Saturday. Half the team, including Head Coach Barry Trotz, was not on the ice. Everyone was energized and in high spirits from the 6-0 shutout against the Chicago Blackhawks the night before.

Instead of a puck, Daniel Winnik started the warm-up with a perforated practice golf ball. Later Braden Holtby and Nate Schmidt shared a silly moment after Schmidt and Dmitry Orlov put a shot past the netminder. Holtbeast playfully slashed Schmidt’s legs, whose dramatics ensued for a fun set of images. Holtby’s face after his payback was priceless.

Post-practice Matt Niskanen even tried to hide from the camera and we shared a laugh. It was a great welcome back to the hockey grind. Enjoy these snaps from the morning practice.

Nate Schmidt scored for the first time in nearly a year and is super happy about it

Nate Schmidt is a great hockey player who should play in every Capitals game. Recently, however, ya boy Smitty has been scratched for Taylor Chorney, after the latter scored the game-winning tally in the Capitals’ New Year’s Day victory.

Well, time to put down the Chorn Horn and ride Schmidt Scooter to Goaltown, USA.

On Thursday night, the Capitals broke the Columbus Blue Jackets’ 16-game winning streak, stopping them from tying the NHL record for most wins in a single season. More importantly, ~~defenseman Jesus~~ Schmidt scored his first goal since January 7, 2016.

“It’s been weighing on me,” Schmidt said when I asked him about his recent rough road, with two straight healthy scratches. He then laughed heartily at his misfortunate. “It’s been a little tough lately. You just got to stick with it. … When they call your name, just be ready!”

Taylor Chorney should never ever play over Nate Schmidt

Taylor Chorney scored on Sunday night to give the Capitals a win over the Ottawa Senators. The game-winner was a great release from far out to become Chorney’s first goal of the season.

That performance gives Barry Trotz a conundrum: When the Caps host the Maple Leafs on Tuesday, should Chorney get another sweater, or should he play Sunday’s healthy scratch, Nate Schmidt, instead?

Another way to ask that question would be this: Should the Capitals ice one of the league’s worst defensive pairs or one of the best?

Taylor Chorney will finally make his season debut tonight

The Washington Capitals are facing the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. The team will be making its first defensive substitution of the season. Nate Schmidt is out while Taylor Chorney will be receiving a jersey for the first time this season.

90 amazing photos from the Caps Red Carpet event

The Washington Capitals hosted their 2016-17 regular season home opener in style Saturday with a special red carpet event. As cars provided by Lexus dropped players off on F Street, diehard Caps fans lined the entrance, hoping for a picture or an autograph with their favorite athlete.

The event started at 3:30 and was hosted by PA Announcer Wes Johnson, who served as the master of ceremonies. Johnson introduced players as they arrived while preselected fans walked the players down the red carpet. Many Caps, including Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Tom Wilson, Nate Schmidt, and Andre Burakovsky, posed for selfies with fans before going inside Verizon Center.

That afternoon, RMNB had two photographers at the event, myself and the talented Katie Snyder (who you can follow on Instagram and Facebook). Snyder is one of the Redskins’ home-game photographers and graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Snyder also does a lot of freelance work, including family-based portraits.

Taylor Chorney leaves preseason game in second period after suffering shoulder injury (Updated)

9:20pm Update: According to Mike Vogel, Chorney went through the concussion protocol and was cleared to return. He was back on the bench for the third period.

Original story: Defenseman Taylor Chorney was forced to leave the Caps’ preseason game in Carolina during the second period after absorbing a rough run behind the net from Hurricanes forward Phillip Di Giuseppe.
