Monday, the Winnipeg Jets announced that the Caps’ assistant has been hired as an associate coach under Rick Bowness’ staff. Reports about Arniel leaving the Capitals began circulating in May.

It appears that the Capitals could have a new look behind the bench next season as ESPN’s Kevin Weekes is reporting that current Caps assistant coach Scott Arniel is a finalist for the Winnipeg Jets head coaching job.
A report from The Athletic’s Murat Ates in late May claimed that Arniel was a “virtual lock” to join the Jets staff. At the time that report had him most likely arriving as an associate coach, but that idea could have changed after Barry Trotz turned down the Jets head coaching job just a week ago.

The Washington Capitals will have a different look behind the bench next season if a report from The Athletic on Tuesday proves true.
Murat Ates reported that Capitals assistant coach Scott Arniel will likely join the Winnipeg Jets next season. “Source tells The Athletic that Scott Arniel is a virtual lock to join the #NHLJets next coaching staff — most likely as an Associate Coach,” Ates wrote on Twitter. Arniel’s hiring is not expected until a new Winnipeg Jets coach is named.
The 59-year-old Arniel was in charge of the Capitals’ 12th-ranked penalty kill (80.4 percent) that did not give up a power-play goal during its first-round series against the Florida Panthers (0-18).

Kevin McCarthy has been hired as an assistant coach and will primarily work with Capitals defensemen.
