Former Caps coach Ron Wilson to be inducted into US Hockey Hall of Fame
19 years ago Friday, the Washington Capitals made the franchise’s only Stanley Cup Final appearance, being swept in four games by the Detroit Red Wings. The team was led by popular head coach Ron Wilson.
On Monday, the United States Hockey Hall of Fame announced that Wilson will be part of its 2017 class.
Wilson is the all-time winningest American head coach in NHL history, tallying 648 regular-season coaching victories with Vancouver, Anaheim, Washington, San Jose, and Toronto. The 648 wins ranks tenth all-time. On four occasions, Wilson piloted his teams to more than 100 regular-season points during his 15 years behind the bench.
