Alex Ovechkin Will Be Sitting By Rich Peverley at the NHL Awards, Which is Kinda Funny if You Think About It

At 7 PM on Tuesday, the NHL Awards will be held live in Las Vegas, Nevada. Everybody’s favorite Russian machine, Alex Ovechkin, will be in attendance. Ovi, who led the NHL in goals this season, is in town to accept the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy for the fourth time in his career. He’s also there to party.

But we at RMNB are concerned about something else much more important: the seating chart.

Rich Peverley Attempts Slash, Braden Holtby Doesn’t Even Care

Holtby’s not impressed.

Before the series started, the Bruins talked a tough game about getting in Braden Holtby‘s face and making life difficult for him. Like many players before them, they soon learned that was easier said than done. With the score tied at 1-1 at the end of a tense second period, Rich Peverley got a little too close to Holtby and Holtby let him know by shoving him off his skates. Peverely retaliated — or at least, pretended to, taking a two-handed slash at Holtby that he stopped just short, clearly trying to spook or scare him.

Backstrom Given Match Penalty, Faces Possible Suspension

10:23 p.m. was not a good time for the Washington Capitals on Monday. That’s when the clock hit zero, putting the Caps down 2-1 in their best of seven quarterfinal matchup with the Bruins. But it was also what happened after the whistle that could haunt the team’s postseason chances.

As the final seconds ticked off and the Caps dropped the game 4-3, Boston’s Rich Peverley and Alex Ovechkin got into a scuffle. Coming to the aid of his buddy, Nicklas Backstrom delivered a cross-check up high on the Bruins forward. That’s when the inconsistent officiating of this series — and these playoffs as a whole — once again reared its head. For his infraction — the third called against him in the game — Backstrom was assessed a match penalty.
