John Tortorella’s expletive-filled, fist-slamming rant about the NHL review process and ‘goddamn technology’

John Tortorella had another meltdown during one of his postgame press conferences.

Tortorella was incensed after he thought officials mismanaged the clock at the end of overtime. After the Blackhawks took a too many men penalty with less than 20 seconds to go, officials let an extra second eek off the clock. The Blue Jackets asked the officials to review and they didn’t. At the end of OT, Zach Werenski scored, but the goal was overruled after it was determined the puck passed the goal line just after the buzzer sounded.

The Blackhawks went on to win 3-2 in the shootout. Blue Jackets goaltender Joonas Korpisalo suffered a right-leg injury during Jonathan Toews’ attempt.

Brooks Laich May Be “Pissed Off,” But the Capitals Are Coasting

Brooks Laich is right to be angry. His team has lost four of its last six games when it should be building momentum for the post-season. But I have to respectfully disagree with his argument; the Washington Capitals are indeed coasting.

In the first period of their last two games, the Capitals have mustered only four shots on goal. This statistic is compelling evidence that the team is not focused on the games in front of them. If someone says that the team is “sailing through to the postseason”, that’s what they’re talking about. When the boys start climbing out of the two- or three- goal holes they dig themselves, they play like heroes again. That’s great, but why are they floundering in the first period at all?
