Former Caps General Manager George McPhee returned to Verizon Center Monday night to scout the game between Washington and Carolina.
The Capitals opened their preseason tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Only a handful of Caps regulars played, leading Tom Wilson to be one of the team’s three alternate captains for the game. In the first period, Wilson nearly checked a Carolina Hurricane player into outer space.
The Washington Capitals had nine players participate in the World Cup of Hockey, including both of their goaltenders, Braden Holtby and Philipp Grubauer, whose touranment teams will be battling it out in the WCH finals. Monday, the Washington Capitals will play their first preseason game of the 2016-17 season against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Their line-up will be sparse on veteran talent.
