What a week it’s been in the hockey world. In today’s episode of the podcast, Ian and I track back through the trade deadline with an eye on the playoff race. Plus, Manny and Bryce leave the DMV.
The trade deadline is but scant days away, so it’s time for Peter and Ian log onto the podcast one last time to ask the age-old question, are the Caps good? The team has problems — big problems — but they seem poised to make the playoffs … except Ian isn’t so sure. That, plus sleep problems and almost no esports chatter at all on the RMNB podcast.
The Caps’ bye week has come at just the right time. Ian and I have come up for air to discuss the All-Star Game, the hidden virtues of the glow puck, slump blame, and Voldemort. Plus, a short chat with a young Caps fan who was at the ASG game and still doesn’t like Crosby.
With five consecutive, agonizing losses in the immediate rearview, Ian and I thought this was the perfect time to get together and discuss anything but the current slump. So here is some chat about the slump and a lot about black-suit Spider-Man, picklebacks, drinking too much soda, esports, the guitar solo in What I Got, internet ads, and the All-Star Game.
On Tuesday, Caps forward Tom Wilson was injured in a hit from Knights forward Ryan Reaves. Of the hit, Reaves said, “[Wilson] was just looking at his pass and ran into a lion in the jungle.” Except lions don’t live in jungles. Tigers and cougars and leopards and jaguars live in jungles. Everyone should know this, so Ian and I talked about this topic and only this topic for a solid hour.
The Capitals have hit the twenty-game threshold with an overtime thriller in Montreal, Tom Wilson has returned to action, a bunch of players are hurt, and the standings are weird. In this episode of the RMNB podcast, we discuss all of that – plus Ian hits a major milestone and has a chat with Gavin McHale, the emergency goalie who backed up Pheonix Copley in Winnipeg. Ian and Gavin discuss the call-up, who greeted him with the team, and if the team did right by him.
We’re just two games into a very young season, but it’s never too early to evaluate how the Caps are looking. The short answer: pretty good! In addition to that, in this episode of the RMNB podcast Ian and Peter pore over Washington’s goalie depth, 1990s sitcom themes, Kempny’s return from a scary injury, Gritty, RMNB’s Todd Squad, why the Rangers are so bad, why all the league’s goalies are hurt, and Peter’s advice for players leaving the Capitals.
All that plus a debate about what we think will happen with Tom Wilson’s appeal and what’s going wrong at the core of his play.
Here’s an hourlong Q&A podcast with Q’s provided by you good people and A’s provided by two tired dudes, Ian and Peter. We talk a lot about the 2018-19 Caps roster, but also a lot about Puddle of Mudd and Limp Bizkit. That’s, um, a mixed bag, but you people asked, so really it’s your fault.
There’s the offseason and then there’s August. Ian and I convened on Sunday to discuss the Caps’ summer moves, the Cup’s journey through the organization, and whether or not Lane Lambert is a dracula. Plus, I plug the very stupid series I’m publishing on the site this week.
For the first time in recorded history, Peter and JP of Japers Rink have sat down to talk about – well, everything. This chat was a long time coming, and there’s a lot of ground to cover.
This is hour two of the conversation. You can find part 1 on Japers Rink Radio.
