NBC Sports Washington announces it will re-air the Capitals’ 2018 Stanley Cup run

The Washington Capitals’ Stanley Cup victory in 2018 still remains an emotional high point for Caps fans. And with the coronavirus pandemic keeping people inside for the immediate future, there’s no better time to re-enjoy those precious moments in time.

NBC Sports Washington announced Thursday morning that it will be re-airing most of the games from the final three rounds of the Capitals’ Stanley Cup championship run.

The games will be aired on weekends over the next three weeks.

Get your hockey fix today by rewatching all of Alex Ovechkin’s hat trick games this season

With the announcement that the NHL will not return until May at the earliest, NBC Sports Washington is doing all it can to fulfill hockey needs in the DMV.

Today, they are airing all of Alex Ovechkin’s hat tricks from this season. Ovi has four hat tricks this season, so that is a full day of hockey to watch. We promise not to spoil any of the endings.

NBC Sports Washington gave Alan May his own show. It debuts tonight.

For the first time since his days on CRL, popular (and sometimes mean online) former Capital Alan May will host his very own show. On Ice With Alan May will debut Wednesday night at 8 PM on NBC Sports Washington. During May’s first episode, he will go over the strictly-enforced face-off rules and explain the difficulties defensemen face when playing on their weak side. He plans to explain advanced statistics in later episodes.

“I’m beyond excited and extremely grateful for this opportunity,” May said in an interview. “The network has been incredible to me from day one and this is another extension of their confidence and belief in my hard work over the years.”

CSN Mid-Atlantic is becoming NBC Sports Washington

Two days after severing ties with popular Caps reporter Jill Sorenson, CSN Mid-Atlantic is making more headlines.

For the third time in seven years, the regional sports network will have a new name. On October 2, ahead of the 2017-18 NHL and NBA regular seasons, CSN Mid-Atlantic will be known as NBC Sports Washington.

“We’re excited to complete the brand evolution of our remaining RSNs, which will now include the iconic NBC Sports name on all of our networks,” David Preschlack, President, NBC Sports Regional Networks and NBC Sports Group Platform and Content Strategy, said. “This development is a reaffirmation of our continued commitment to provide the best, most compelling local sports coverage to our fans across the country.”

The regional networks’ brand progression began in April with NBC Sports Bay Area and NBC Sports California.
