Ahead of the Washington Capitals’ home opener against the Islanders tonight, hundreds of Caps fans lined F Street to take pictures and snag autographs from players at a red carpet event.
A few players took selfies with the crowd.

On Thursday, Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov posted videos from a Capitals recent golf outing on social media. After chunking a large piece of earth out of ground, Ovechkin hit the golf ball a mile and celebrated like he just won the Stanley Cup. After a miracle putt from the green, Evgeny Kuznetsov did the same.
Friday, Nate Schmidt joined Mike Vogel for the team’s Rinkside Update and talked about how that team-building event went.
“Real good, our team ended up winning. We were the ‘four man scramble’ myself, TJ Oshie, Lars Eller, and Christian Thomas.” Schmidt said with a smile. “It was a lot of fun.”
Schmidt also talked about his preparation for the upcoming season, how it feels to be back with the same seven defensemen, and how he loves just chillin’ with the guys.

For those of you who buy the Caps’ Dog Calendar year after year, we have some great news. The Caps just announced the date when they will be available.
On Friday, November 18 during the Caps/Red Wings game, the organization will put up a limited number of calendars up for sale at the MSE Foundation table located at Section 104 on the main concourse of the Verizon Center.
The Capitals also released a few photos already taken for the calendar.

Capitals defenseman Nate Schmidt had a goal and an assist in his preseason debut against the Islanders, Saturday. Most notably, Schmidt was aggressive, joining the Caps’ offensive attack whenever he could.
The preseason is a great time for the coaching staff to experiment and try new things – like the team’s decision to shift center Zach Sanford to the wing. So usually it’s not wise to read much into the team’s strategy, especially early in the preseason.
Except in this case where we should totally read into what we’re seeing.
In tonight’s preseason game, the Caps are facing Jason Chimera’s New York Islanders. After the first period, the Caps are up 1-0 thanks to a power play goal by our #88 defenseman Nathan Schmidt.

The Capitals’ popular Casino Night fundraiser is back for 2016 and tickets are now available, the team announced today in a press release.
The 2016 Casino Night will take place Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel. Tickets are on sale now: $250 for MVP tickets gets you food, beverages, access to the casino floor, live and silence auctions, and a raffle; $450 for VIP tickets gets you into an hourlong reception with the whole team before the event officially kicks off.
All the funds raised will benefit MSE Foundation, the nonprofit arm of the Washington Capitals.

On Saturday, September 17th a large contingent of the Caps organization took over the new Nando’s PERi-PERi in Arlington to help benefit Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation. The players that participated included Andre Burakovsky, Lars Eller, Stanislav Galiev, Nate Schmidt, and Tom Wilson. Additional members that helped out were Caps alumnus Paul Mulvey, PA Announcer Wes Johnson, the Red Rockers, Slapshot, Elliot In The Morning, and CSN’s Caps analysts Craig Laughlin and Courtney Laughlin.
It sure looks like everyone had a great time.

If you just can’t wait until the Capitals start their training camp Sept. 23 to get your fix of brobeans and cinnamon rolls, you’re in luck. Five Caps players will man the grill in a promotion for the new Nando’s Peri-Peri opening near Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Ballston on Saturday.
Andre Burakovsky, Lars Eller, Stan Galiev, Nate Schmidt, and Tom Wilson will appear at the new restaurant between noon and 7 p.m. Saturday, along with Capitals alumnus Paul Mulvey, Red Rockers, Caps public address announcer Wes Johnson, Elliot Segal, and Craig and Courtney Laughlin.
