The Hershey Bears held their annual teddy bear toss game Sunday night at Giant Center.
After giving up two first period goals to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Liam O’Brien scored at the 13:27 mark of the second period to send the teddy bears flying.
Saturday morning, the Washington Capitals announced that they re-assigned forward Liam O’Brien back to the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears. Head coach Barry Trotz dressed O’Brien in three of the last four games over incumbent forward Nathan Walker. O’Brien registered one shot and five minutes in penalties.
The transaction was likely made to allow sniper Brett Connolly, previously out with a concussion, return to the team. The Capitals play the Edmonton Oilers Sunday night.
Just past the halfway mark in the first period, Penguins goon Ryan Reaves laid a check on Caps forward Liam O’Brien that The Big Tuna didn’t like.
What followed was a couragous decision by O’Brien.

Thursday morning, the Capitals announced that they have recalled forward Liam O’Brien and returned forward Anthony Peluso to the Hershey Bears. Peluso played two games with the Capitals during his call-up, scoring no points and earning four penalty minutes.
O’Brien has scored two goals in nine games for the Bears this season after a 30-point showing last year, including 10 goals. Since making his NHL debut in 2014, the forward has played in 14 games with the Caps, scoring a goal and two assists.

Sunday afternoon, the Hershey Bears won their second straight game, beating the Hartford Wolf Pack 4-3. Sunday night, members of the team celebrated the victory in style. Halloween style.
The Bears gathered in costume, documenting the party for all of us.

With Hershey Bears training camp underway, the Washington Capitals announced new roster moves as they whittled their training camp roster down to 30 on Tuesday.
The Caps released defenseman Jyrki Jokipakka from his professional try out offer while sending five others down to AHL Hershey – two of which must pass through waivers.
Friday afternoon, the Capitals announced they re-signed Liam O’Brien to a one-year, two-way contract. O’Brien will make the league minimum, $650,000, at the NHL level and $85,000 at the AHL level for the upcoming season.
O’Brien first landed in the organization after receiving a training camp invite in 2014. The left winger was a sensation during camp, making his NHL debut on October 9, 2014. O’Brien registered a fight in that first game against the Montreal Canadiens’ Brandon Prust and tallied his first NHL point days later against the San Jose Sharks.

Thursday, Capitals prospects Liam O’Brien and Domenic Monardo got in their final workout before a weekend three-in-three, which would see the Bears play Syracuse, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and Springfield. O’Brien and Monardo got very creative on how to work up a sweat.
Donning inflatable dinosaur costumes, O’Brien and Monardo went one-on-one, attempting to play a legitimate game of basketball.
They failed. Miserably.

TJ Oshie was held out of the Caps lineup Monday night against Montreal after suffering an injury Saturday against Ottawa. Oshie appeared to injure his left shoulder again as Senators defenseman Dion Phaneuf checked him in the neutral zone. Later, Phaneuf ended Oshie’s night for good after cross-checking him in the small of the back. Barry Trotz called the injury day-to-day. Oshie participated in the Capitals’ morning skate Monday, but did not play that night, allowing prospect Liam O’Brien to make his season debut.
Well it sure looks like Oshie will be returning to the lineup tomorrow night against Pittsburgh. The Capitals just announced on their off day that they have re-assigned forwards Paul Carey and O’Brien back to AHL Hershey.
The roster leaves the Capitals with 12 forwards on the roster. Unless the Caps make a corresponding roster move (or play Nate Schmidt at forward), Osh Babe is back, baby.
With TJ Oshie out of the lineup tonight, Brett Connolly will be replacing the skilled forward on the first line. It also means Hershey Bears forward Liam O’Brien will make his season debut on the Capitals’ fourth-line along with Jay Beagle and a bruised-up Tom Wilson.
