Michael Latta bats puck out of mid-air to score first career KHL goal

Over the summer, former Capital and forever brobean Michael Latta left North American hockey behind and joined Chinese team Kunlun Red Star of the Kontinental League on a one-year contract.

Latta’s first tally for the Beijing based team — which has Wayne Gretzky as their global ambassador — came eight games into his KHL career, against Avtomobilist on Sunday. And, as far as first goals go, it was pretty sweet.

Predators prospect Eeli Tolvanen surpasses Evgeny Kuznetsov’s KHL under-20 points record

All good things must come to an end: such is the case with Evgeny Kuznetsov‘s KHL record for points scored by a player under 20.

On January 9, Nashville Predators prospect Eeli Tolvanen scored his 33rd point of the season, bypassing Kuznetsov with eight games left in the KHL’s regular season.

KHL defenseman Stepan Zakharchuk suspended eight games for ugly head-hunting hit

On Tuesday night in the KHL matchup between Metallurg Magnitogorsk and Ak Bars Kazan, Kazan defenseman Stepan Zakharchuk laid a huge, dirty hit on Metallurg’s Aleksandr Budkin.

It was not pretty.

KHL goalie Julius Hudacek balances stick on face during victory celebration with fans

The KHL can be super fun sometimes and here’s another example.

Severstal Cherepovets goaltender Julius Hudacek gave fans one of his signature Hudashows Tuesday. The Slovakian netminder pumped up the crowd, conversed with a mascot, and balanced his stick on his face before tossing it ten rows into the crowd as a souvenir.

KHL player scores full-rink goal, goalie wishes he could transport to another planet

Monday, during a KHL game featuring Amur Khabarovsk and Ak Bars Kazan, defenseman Pavel Turbin scored a once-in-a-lifetime goal. With just over 11 minutes remaining in the game, Turbin took a pot shot from his own end towards the Ak Bars goal.

And… it went in.

SKA Saint Petersberg calls Evgeny Kuznetsov transfer ‘fake news’

Monday morning, R-Sport’s Semen Galkevich reported via an unnamed source that SKA Saint Petersberg was in the process of acquiring Evgeny Kuznetsov’s rights from Traktor Chelyabinsk. He added that the defending-champion KHL team had offered the restricted free agent a three-year, $18 million contract, possibly in May, which was turned down. Kuznetsov is signed to a NHL contract until June 30.

SKA Saint Petersberg responded to the report on their official Twitter account Monday.

Report: Evgeny Kuznetsov allegedly turns down three-year, $18 million offer from KHL

Monday morning, R-Sport’s Semen Galkevich had a report on Evgeny Kuznetsov and the KHL from across the ocean.

According to Galkevich, SKA Saint Petersburg is purchasing Kuznetsov’s rights from his hometown KHL team, Traktor Chelyabinsk, for approximately $3 million. That move is reportedly happening “within a few weeks.”

CSKA head coach Igor Nikitin confirms team’s interest in Dmitry Orlov

Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov is a restricted free agent this July, but there’s no guarantee he will be back in the NHL next season. CSKA, who owns Orlov’s KHL rights until age 28, has expressed strong interest to try and sign the defender this summer.

“We are conducting serious negotiations with Orlov,” Igor Esmantovich said last week. “We have an understanding regarding this player. The head coach wants to see him on the team.”

Thursday, the team’s head coach Igor Nikitin spoke to sportfm.ru and confirmed the news.

KHL CSKA in talks to sign Dmitry Orlov

Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov is coming off the best season of his career, but the 25-year-old Russian will be a restricted free agent this July. The Caps control Orlov’s rights at the NHL level, but he also has suitors overseas.

Friday morning, CSKA President Igor Esmantovich announced that the Moscow-based KHL team is in talks with Orlov.
