Doug Armstrong says Jay Bouwmeester is doing ‘very well’ after suffering cardiac event during game

St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong updated the press on Jay Bouwmeester’s condition after the longtime defenseman collapsed during the Blues-Ducks game Tuesday night. Armstrong made his comments in Las Vegas at the Waldorf Astoria hotel.

According to Armstrong, Bouwmeester’s life was saved by medical personnel at the rink. He needed a defibrillator to be revived. Armstrong immediately called Bouwmeester’s wife, who did not watch the game, and gave her updates.

Jay Bouwmeester collapses on bench, Blues-Ducks game postponed

Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester collapsed on the Blues bench during their game against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday. The “cardiac episode” occurred during a TV timeout in the first period as Bouwmeester went for some water.

Blues players immediately waved over for a trainer to attend to their slumped-over teammate. The quick action may have saved Jay’s life.
