Hershey Bears announce Opening Night roster for 2023-24 season

The Hershey Bears are ready for puck drop ahead of their season-opening matchup against the Belleville Senators, Saturday night.

The team announced its 31-player, Opening Night roster that includes 19 forwards, 9 defensemen, and 3 goaltenders.

The Bears feature 16 returning players from the 2023 Calder Cup Championship team, including 2023 AHL Playoff MVP Hunter Shepard and Capitals prospects Hendrix Lapierre and Vincent Iorio. Ivan Miroshnichenko and Alexander Suzdalev have both made the Bears and will play their rookie seasons in the AHL.

Capitals Rookie Camp at the US Naval Academy in photos

Annapolis, MD — The Washington Capitals held their final day of Rookie Camp at McMullen Hockey Arena on Tuesday.

Top prospects like Ivan Miroshnichenko, Hendrix Lapierre, Vincent Iorio, Alexander Suzdalev, and Andrew Cristall participated in the four-day event, which saw the young stars not only work on their on-ice skills, but team-build off of it at the US Naval Academy.

Hershey Bears players answer: ‘Who’s the most famous person in your phone?’

The Washington Capitals are the 12th-worst team in the NHL and could take some figurative TNT to their roster over the next two weeks. So let’s turn our attention to one of the very best teams in the American Hockey League, the Hershey Bears, who may supply some players to the Capitals’ roster in the coming weeks.

The Bears were asked an interesting question from their social media team: Who is the most famous person in your phone, and do they pick up if you call them?

Some answered seriously and others joked around. The video is a good barometer of how many likable characters the team has.

Henrik Rybinski scores first AHL goal in Hershey Bears’ 4-3 win over Baby Penguins

Henrik Rybinski scored his first AHL goal in Hershey’s road victory over the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins on Sunday.

The Florida Panthers’ 2019 fifth-round draft pick turned Capitals prospect, wearing jersey number 38, potted a rebound that came out into the slot from an Aaron Ness rush attempt to give the Bears a 4-0 lead.

Capitals cut 22 players from Training Camp roster

The Washington Capitals announced a huge group of cuts from their Training Camp roster on Friday. Twenty-two players were sent back to their respective clubs, trimming down the overall group in DC to 40.

The Caps’ AHL affiliate Hershey Bears start their Training Camp early next week and all but one of the cuts in this group is headed to Pennsylvania for that. Four of the players will need to make it through waivers before being allowed to do so.

The news was announced by Capitals PR.

Capitals sign free agent forward Henrik Rybinski from the WHL’s Seattle Thunderbirds

The Washington Capitals have signed free agent forward Henrik Rybinski according to The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir. Rybinski, who was drafted in the fifth round by the Florida Panthers in 2019, currently plays for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League.

The six-foot-two, 185-pound center did not sign with Florida Panthers after being a participant in multiple camps with the team and skated in Edmonton Oilers rookie camp this past fall.
