During the Carolina Hurricanes’ 3-2 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday, defenseman Dougie Hamilton left the game after getting his skates tangled with forward Kevin Stenlund and falling awkwardly on his leg.
As Hamilton fell late in the second period, his left leg bent underneath him and his full weight came down on top of it. He was unable to stand after the tumble and required help from a trainer and teammate Trevor van Riemsdyk to leave the ice. Hamilton did not return to the game.

The New York Islanders only scored five goals over the course of their four-game sweep at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes, but one of those goals certainly left a big impression. The Isles’ Brock Nelson gave Canes’ goalie Curtis McElhinney a pat on the head after Josh Bailey snuck one past him in Game Three.
Canes’ defenseman Dougie Hamilton didn’t forget the insult, and during the handshake line after Carolina’s 5-2 win to take the series, Hamilton gave Nelson a little pat on the head of his own.

Micheal Ferland was ejected in the second period for an illegal check to the head of Nic Dowd, but he may not be the Carolina Hurricanes’ player that’s in hot water after the game.
During the second intermission, NBC analysts Jeremy Roenick and Eddie Olczyk both went on the record saying Hamilton should be suspended by the Department of Player Safety for an elbow to the head of Evgeny Kuznetsov.
Update, Sunday, 2:00 PM: Chris Kuc of The Athletic says Hamilton will not face additional discipline.
On Dougie Hamilton elbow to Evgeny Kuznetsov, there wasn’t enough force to warrant supplemental discipline.
And Micheal Ferland did take a good angle and hit through Nic Dowd’s body without head contact.

Despite growing up in the heart of Canadian hockey, Toronto native Dougie Hamilton‘s favorite player rocks the Capitals’ red instead of Leafs’ blue.
“[Alex] Ovechkin’s probably my favorite player,” Hamilton said in an interview with Fox Sports’ Mike Maniscalco.
Hamilton is known for his skills as an offensive-defenseman, and Ovechkin is the origin of that forward-thinking style. “As a kid, I think I was maybe thirteen, I played a year or two as forward,” Hamilton said. “That’s what I liked. I wanted to be Ovechkin. And now I’m trying to do it as a defenseman.”
