A year after the Stanley Cup-winning Washington Capitals became the first team to be inducted into the DC Sports Hall of Fame, the 2019 championship teams from the Washington Nationals and Washington Mystics will receive the same honor as Teams Of Distinction.
The news was announced in a release Tuesday morning from the DC Sports Hall of Fame.
Monumental Sports and Entertainment founder Ted Leonsis was at Nationals Park on Sunday. Leonsis was there to accept the DC Hall of Fame nod on behalf of Washington Capitals’ 2018 Stanley Cup-winning team.
Before the start of the Braves-Nationals game, the Capitals championship team, as well as 10 other individuals, were officially inducted into the DC Sports Hall of Fame.
The Washington Capitals’ Stanley Cup-winning team from the 2017-18 season is getting another distinguished honor.
Monday, the DC Sports Hall of Fame announced 10 new individual members and one team award. The Washington Capitals’ Stanley Cup-winning team is becoming the DC Sports Hall of Fame’s first-ever Team of Distinction.
