Day With Stanley Cup

Craig ‘Woody’ Leydig took the Stanley Cup out on the Chesapeake Bay for sunrise. The photos are spectacular.

Tuesday was Craig “Woody” Leydig’s day with the Stanley Cup. A native of Annapolis, Maryland, Ledig decided to show Stanley around his home town.

The day started on the Chesapeake Bay, where Ledig and his family brought the Stanley Cup out on their boat to watch the sunrise. The sight of the Stanley Cup being raised as the sun comes up over the Bay is purely breathtaking.

Insanely long line wraps around entire Annapolis City Dock for chance to get picture with Stanley Cup

During one of the hottest days of the year in Maryland, Capitals fans began lining up at 6:45 am at Annapolis’s City Block for a chance to take a photo with the Stanley Cup. This is the second public opportunity locally to pose with Lord Stanley’s Cup. The Capitals were overwhelmed by the demand on Saturday as thousands of people packed the Ballston parking deck during FanFest.

A little after 12:30, assistant equipment manager Craig “Woody” Leydig arrived at the dock on a speed boat while holding the championship trophy. That is the most Maryland thing ever.

Leydig previously brought the Stanley Cup to the Capital Gazette in the morning to honor the victims of the mass shooting last Thursday.

Days after mass shooting, Caps equipment manager Craig ‘Woody’ Leydig brings Stanley Cup to Capital Gazette

Last Thursday, five journalists tragically died after a gunman opened fire at the Capital Gazette headquarters located in Annapolis, MD. Gerald Fischman (61), Rob Hiaasen (59), John McNamara (56), Rebecca Smith (34), and Wendi Winters (65) were all killed in the rampage.

Tuesday morning, while President Trump dominated the headlines after initially refusing a request to lower Amercian flags to half-staff, Leydig quietly brought the Stanley Cup into the Capital Gazette’s temporary office to honor the victims and bring some joy back to the news organization.

Tim Ohashi and Brooks Orpik take Stanley Cup to Bethesda Police Station

Monday after taking the Stanley Cup to the Lincoln Memorial, Capitals video analyst and Bethesda, MD native Tim Ohashi brought the championship trophy to the 2nd District Police Station.

“I was really fortunate to grow up around here,” Ohashi said to Bethesda Magazine’s Leigh McDonald. “I never felt unsafe. The hard work these people do is a big reason why.”

He also brought along a friend: former Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik. Orpik is currently an unrestricted free agent after being traded to Colorado and bought out days later. The Capitals are open to bringing him back to the team for the right price.

On Thursday, Orpik attended the Quicken Loans National Golf Tournament with John Carlson.

Capitals equipment manager Craig ‘Woody’ Leydig invites fans to Annapolis to take their photo with the Stanley Cup

On Tuesday, the Washington Capitals assistant equipment manager Craig “Woody” Leydig will have his day with the Stanley Cup. Leydig has been with the Capitals organization for 29 years and, as an Annapolis resident, wants to share the Cup with local fans.

Leydig and the Cup will be at Ego Alley/City Dock from 12:30 until 1:15pm, and he is encouraging Caps fans in the Annapolis area to come out, touch the Cup, and take their picture with it. Once Leydig has finished taking the Stanley Cup around town, he plans to conclude his day with a party with friends and family.

Alex Ovechkin is bringing the Stanley Cup to Moscow, Russia on July 7

Monday afternoon, Alex Ovechkin announced via his Instagram account that he will be bringing the Stanley Cup to Moscow on July 7.

Ovechkin will let fans take pictures with the championship trophy at a World Cup fanfest event at Vorobyovy Gory in Sparrow Hills. The landmark is one of the highest points in Moscow and offers a panoramic view of the city.

Andre Burakovsky’s day with the Stanley Cup is August 9. He’ll be bringing the Cup to Malmo, Sweden for the first time ever.

Capitals forward Andre Burakovsky just announced when his day with the Stanley Cup will be.

On August 9, the Swedish forward will bring the championship trophy to Malmo, Sweden. According to Burakovsky, it will be the “first time ever” the Cup has visited the city.

Video Analyst Tim Ohashi begins his day with the Stanley Cup at the Lincoln Memorial

July 2 might be an ordinary day to a lot of us, but for Tim Ohashi, today will be a day he never forgets.

Monday, the Capitals’ video analyst had his day with the Stanley Cup. His first stop was raising the cup over his head at the Lincoln Memorial.

Chandler Stephenson will bring the Stanley Cup to Humboldt on August 24

April 6, tragedy struck the hockey world when a bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos crashed, killing 15. In the wake of the horrible accident, the hockey community has rallied around the Humboldt community. Hockey players everywhere left their sticks out for the night to honor the victims, while the surviving Broncos have been invited to Stanley Cup Final games and the NHL Awards in Las Vegas.

Recently, the NHL announced another way the league will show their support for the community: Caps forward Chandler Stephenson will bring the Cup to Humboldt on August 24.

Brett Connolly will have his day with the Stanley Cup on August 20

Washington Capitals forward Brett Connolly will have his day with the Stanley Cup on Monday, August 20.

Connolly will be spending his afternoon holding a rally at the arena of his former junior hockey team, the Prince George Cougars.

In three full seasons with the WHL team, Connolly scored 86 goals. That production led Connolly to be selected sixth overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2010 NHL Draft.
