Alex Ovechkin holds up Stanley Cup next to Nicklas Backstrom’s photo during Dynamo visit

When the NHL entered a lockout during the 2012-13 regular season, Alex Ovechkin returned to Moscow to play in the KHL for his hometown team, Dynamo. After some gentle persuasion, Nicklas Backstrom also joined him there.

“Ovechkin’s been calling since he came to Moscow,” Backstrom told SVT Sport at the time. “It’ll be fun.”

On Saturday, Ovechkin returned to Dynamo Moscow’s headquarters in Novogorsk as part of his day with the Stanley Cup. While there, Ovi lifted the Cup with his father, Mikhail, for the first time. However, he also made another important stop to lift the Cup.

Alex Ovechkin raises the Stanley Cup with his father Mikhail for the first time

On Saturday, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin had his day with the Stanley Cup. The Russian machine shared the championship trophy with thousands of Russians in his hometown of Moscow, but there was one moment that was especially notable.

Ovechkin’s father Mikhail finally had his chance to raise the Stanley Cup with his son.

Gina and John Carlson put their son Rudy in the Stanley Cup and it’s too cute

Ahead of Game Five of the second round in the Capitals’ run for the Stanley Cup, Gina and John Carlson welcomed their second son, Rudy, into the world.

On July 4, while Carlson was celebrating his day with the Stanley Cup in Bethesda, Rudy turned two-months-old.

Of course, when the opportunity presented itself, how could they resist putting Rudy in the Cup?

As he dreamed years before, Nicklas Backstrom will bring the Stanley Cup to the hometown arena named after him

During an interview with Viasat in 2014, Nicklas Backstrom mused he would bring the Stanley Cup back to Gävle, Sweden. On August 12, that dream will become a reality when he has his day with the Stanley Cup.

Backstrom wants to share the Cup with as many people as possible and will take the championship trophy to Nickback Arena – the hometown rink named after him.

Philipp Grubauer will bring the Stanley Cup to his hometown of Rosenheim, Germany on August 13

Former Capitals goaltender Philipp Grubauer will have his day with the Stanley Cup on August 13. Grubauer will spend the day in Rosenheim, Germany, where he grew up.

The news was announced by the Starbulls Rosenheim, Grubi’s youth hockey team.

Alex Ovechkin to bring Stanley Cup to Dynamo Moscow headquarters on July 7

Alex Ovechkin’s day with the Stanley Cup is coming more into focus.

On July 7, the Russian machine is scheduled to have the NHL’s championship trophy in Moscow. In an Instagram post, Ovechkin publicized that he would bring the Cup to a World Cup fanfest event in Sparrow Hills from 1-4pm on Saturday. Now, Dynamo Moscow, Ovechkin’s former Russian hockey team, has announced Ovechkin will be hosting an event at it’s Novogorsk headquarters.

Jakub Vrana will take the Stanley Cup to his grandmother’s grave in the Czech Republic

The Washington Capitals won the Stanley Cup with two prominent Czech players on their roster last season, Jakub Vrana and Michal Kempny. Defenseman Jakub Jerabek also served as a reserve during the team’s championship run.

The Czech contingent will bring the Stanley Cup to their home country for two days next week on July 10 and 11. It’s the first time the championship trophy will be in the Czech Republic since Michal Rozsíval won with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2015.

While Kempny will be taking the Stanley Cup to his hometown and the Czech city where he played hockey, Vrana had a more heartfelt idea for his day with the Cup on July 11.

Report: TJ Oshie and Shane Gersich expected to share their day with the Stanley Cup in North Dakota

According to the Grand Forks Herald, TJ Oshie will have his day with the Stanley Cup on July 24 in North Dakota.

Shane Gersich, who signed a two-year, entry-level deal with the Capitals in March, and made his debut during the 2017-18 regular season, will share the day with Oshie.

John Carlson spends his day with the Stanley Cup at Children’s National Medical Center and Defeat DIPG fundraiser

On Wednesday, recently re-signed defenseman John Carlson became the first Capitals player to spend his day with Lord Stanley’s cup.

Carlson opted to remain in Washington, and took the Cup around Bethesda, MD. He visited first responders at the Bethesda firehouse, Children’s National Medical Center, the now-renowned Mamma Lucia’s, as well as held a parade and fundraiser for Defeat DIPG, before concluding his day with a private party at Salt Line in Navy Yard.

Dave Marin takes precious photo with 10-week-old daughter during his day with Stanley Cup

Two days after Craig “Woody” Leydig took the NHL’s championship trophy on a tour around Annapolis, Maryland, assistant equipment manager Dave Marin had his day with the Stanley Cup in Arlington, Virginia.

Marin started his day off by taking a photo with this 10-week-old daughter Brynn and his wife Rachel.
