Goal no. 801: Alex Ovechkin ties Gordie Howe for second on the NHL’s all-time goals list

History has been made on the fifth try!

Alex Ovechkin just tied Gordie Howe for second on the NHL’s all-time goals list after a beautiful rush goal against the Winnipeg Jets.

Ovechkin scored the milestone tally on goaltender David Rittich. It’s the 166th different goaltender Ovechkin has scored on during his illustrious career. Ovi previously scored his 600th career goal against the Jets on Connor Hellebuyck.

David Rittich does walk-off stick toss after making game-winning shootout save on Leon Draisaitl

Warning: You hockey purists out there are going to absolutely hate this.

Calgary Flames All-Star goaltender David Rittich celebrated an intense victory over the Edmonton Oilers with a stick toss after making the game-winning shootout save on Leon Draisaitl.

Like he was a baseball player celebrating a walk-off home run, Rittich threw his stick high into the air before getting mobbed by his teammates.

Goalies get involves in Coyotes-Flames line brawl

I’m always a fan of goalies doing things other than stopping shots, which is why I’m bringing you video of the line brawl between the Calgary Flames and Arizona Coyotes Saturday night.

Goaltenders David Rittich and Darcy Kuemper both left their creases and got involved in the line brawl. Rittich tried to play more of a peacekeeper role while Kuemper was throwing hands at Matthew Tkachuk.

Matthew Tkachuk runs Marc-Andre Fleury, almost starts goalie fight with David Rittich

During the Flames-Knights game on Wednesday night a brawl broke out after Matthew Tkachuk skated into Marc-Andre Fleury, and we almost got a goalie fight.

Marc-Andre Fleury set his stick on the ice, but and shook his blocker, while having a stare-down with David Rittich.

But Rittich toed the (blue) line, and even though he looked ready to go, he didn’t cross it.

Flames goaltender arranges heartwarming meeting between autistic brother and mascot

When Calgary Flames goaltender David Rittich invited his younger brother, Tomas, and his family over from the Czech Republic to watch him play, he knew that he wouldn’t be the biggest star in his brother’s eyes.

That honor would go, instead, to the Flames’ mascot, Harvey the Hound.

“When they’re watching my games when they’re back home, he’s always looking for Harvey the Hound,” Rittich told Ryan Dittrick of NHL.com. “He pretty much loves him.”

Tomas, who has autism and other developmental challenges, is Rittich’s inspiration. But Tomas could never have imagined the surprise his older brother had in store for him when he went to the Saddledome to take in a Flames practice: meeting his furry hero.
