Darren Helm scores goal with just 5.6 seconds left in regulation to send Colorado Avalanche to Western Conference Final

The Edmonton Oilers now know their Western Conference Final dance partner as the Colorado Avalanche finally put the St. Louis Blues away in six games. In typical NHL playoff fashion, it had to happen in theatrical circumstances.

Avs forward Darren Helm slammed a puck past Blues goaltender Ville Husso with just 5.6 seconds left in regulation to seal the deal. The hockey equivalent of a buzzer-beater gave Colorado a 3-2 lead and sent the Blues to their offseason stunned.

Zach Hyman’s mom screams support for her son during fight

Saturday night at Air Canada Centre, the Toronto Maple Leafs played the recently-eliminated Detroit Red Wings in an Eastern Conference showdown.

The Leafs won 4-3, but I want to point you to the first period fight between lightweights Zach Hyman and Darren Helm.

Brian MacLellan has said the Caps intend to upgrade their third line this offseason. This is part of our series looking at free agents who the Caps may target.

Having spent the entirety of his career in Detroit, Darren Helm might be looking for a change of scenery. The speedy skater is coming off a four-year deal with a cap hit of $2.125 million. He’ll likely be offered a raise from several teams–and the Caps should be among them.
