Sunday night in Calgary, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin met superfan Cash Niebergall inside the locker room after the Caps’ 3-1 victory over the Calgary Flames. As you’ll recall, Ovechkin tossed a stick to tiny Cash in Edmonton, but the two never had a chance to meet. On Cash’s eighth birthday on Friday, Ovechkin reached out to the family and generously gave them tickets to the Flames game.
Inside the locker room, Ovechkin signed trading cards, jerseys, and the stick that he tossed to Cash last Wednesday in Edmonton. “Do you want me to personalize?” Ovechkin asked the star-struck eight-year-old, before inscribing To Cash, Best of luck! on the twig.
