The Washington Capitals got blown out again on Sunday, giving up five goals or more for the sixth time in their last 10 games. Their latest failing, a 5-2 L to the New York Rangers, saw the Caps get scrappy in the final minutes as more frustration set in.
Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was tossed with 3:31 left as he decided to spend his final shift making Barclay Goodrow’s life a living hell.
The New York Rangers look to have their lines set for their season-opening matchup against the Capitals on Wednesday. Ryan Reaves is back on the ice after an injury scare last week and skating on the team’s fourth line.
Reaves had his leg buckle in an awkward collision with PK Subban during a Rangers-Devils preseason game on October 6. Reaves escaped any sort of serious injury and was said to be out day-to-day.

During Barclay Goodrow’s introductory press conference on Friday, the Rangers’ new fight-y, grinding forward predicted that New York’s Opening Night game against the Washington Capitals “should be interesting.”
The Capitals and Rangers ended the 2020-21 season with line brawls in consecutive games.

For those of you who like violence in your hockey, there was a lot of hacking, whacking, and face-punching in the Boston Bruins-Tampa Bay Lightning game, Saturday night.
In the second period, there was an all-out line brawl after Anthony Cirelli cross-checked future Hall of Famer Zdeno Chara to the ice from behind.
NESN’s Jack Edwards, who’s notorious for his homerific and over-the-top commentating, had the call.
