Alexander Suzdalev pots first two goals for Mora IK of HockeyAllsvenskan after loan move

The Washington Capitals loaned prospect Alexander Suzdalev to Mora IK of the HockeyAllsvenskan in Sweden earlier this month. Suzdalev had been with the Hershey Bears but could not crack the AHL powerhouse’s lineup so a move for playing time was initiated.

The 19-year-old winger initially struggled to get going with his new team, going scoreless in his first four games. That changed on Sunday as Suzdalev broke out with two goals in Mora IK’s 6-0 win over Almtuna IS.

Capitals loan prospect Alexander Suzdalev to Mora IK of HockeyAllsvenskan after he played in none of Hershey Bears’ first 11 games

The Washington Capitals announced on Tuesday that have loaned Swedish forward prospect Alexander Suzdalev to Mora IK of the HockeyAllsvenskan (Sweden-2). Suzdalev started the 2023-24 season with the Hershey Bears in the AHL but has been unable to crack head coach Todd Nelson’s deep, league-leading squad.

Suzdalev will head to the Swedish men’s pro league after spending all of last year dominating the Canadian major junior level with the WHL’s Regina Pats. The Russian-born winger recorded 86 points (38g, 48a) in 66 games for Regina, leading all WHL rookies by 28 points.

Capitals announce roster for first preseason game under head coach Spencer Carbery

After only three days of on-ice Training Camp, the Washington Capitals will host their first game of the 2023 preseason.

Sunday, the Capitals will take on the Buffalo Sabres at Capital One Arena as Spencer Carbery makes his head coaching debut with the team.

The Capitals will sport a lineup that features a combination of veteran NHL players, minor leaguers, and prospects.

Capitals Rookie Camp at the US Naval Academy in photos

Annapolis, MD — The Washington Capitals held their final day of Rookie Camp at McMullen Hockey Arena on Tuesday.

Top prospects like Ivan Miroshnichenko, Hendrix Lapierre, Vincent Iorio, Alexander Suzdalev, and Andrew Cristall participated in the four-day event, which saw the young stars not only work on their on-ice skills, but team-build off of it at the US Naval Academy.

Alexander Suzdalev impresses Caps brass with his summer training: ‘He’s put on some really good weight, muscle’

Alexander Suzdalev is one of the most exciting prospects in the Washington Capitals’ organization and due to that, there has been plenty of talk about where he’ll be playing his hockey this upcoming season. The two most likely destinations for the 19-year-old forward are either heading back to junior for another year in the WHL with the Regina Pats or turning pro and playing in the AHL with the Hershey Bears.

Capitals assistant general manager and prospect guru Ross Mahoney discussed the plan for the Russian-born, Swedish-raised winger in Annapolis on Sunday where the Caps are holding the majority of this year’s Rookie Camp.

Alex Ovechkin among the many local sports legends who attend Washington Commanders sold out home opener

The Washington Commanders had an ownership change over the offseason, finally cutting ties with longtime problematic figurehead Dan Snyder. With new owners Josh Harris, Magic Johnson, and Mark Ein at the helm, the Commanders had an excitement and buzz at FedEx Field for the team’s home opener against the Arizona Cardinals that had long been missing over the last decade-plus.

That energy and optimism was felt early by the sold-out crowd with how deafening it was. It also showed in the sports celebrities that attended the game.

The Washington Capitals were well represented at the football team’s season opener in Landover, MD. Caps captain Alex Ovechkin and his family were in the house along and the team’s Russian prospects — Alex Alexeyev and Ivan Miroshnichenko. The American football game appears to be the first for Miroshnichenko.

Why Connor Bedard thinks the Capitals should be excited for Alexander Suzdalev and Andrew Cristall

ARLINGTON, VA– 2023 first overall pick Connor Bedard spent Tuesday at the Capitals’ practice facility as a participant in the NHLPA Rookie Showcase. Though he’ll be playing nearly 600 miles away in Chicago, Bedard has ties to DC through friends Alexander Suzdalev and Andrew Cristall.

Suzdalev shared a line with Bedard for much of the 2022-23 season with the Regina Pats, while Cristall and Bedard met as children while playing in Vancouver and now play in a roller-hockey league together.

Both players earned a shout-out during Bedard’s press conference Tuesday, where the Blackhawk-to-be highlighted the skills he’s gotten to see up close.

Capitals’ Rookie Camp to primarily be held at McMullen Hockey Arena in Annapolis, MD

The Washington Capitals are returning to Maryland.

Tuesday, the Caps announced that they will split their Rookie Camp between MedStar Capitals Iceplex and McMullen Hockey Arena in Annapolis, MD.

Prospects schedule to attend include 2020 first-round pick Hendrix Lapierre, 2022 first-round pick Ivan Miroshnichenko, Vincent Iorio, Alexander Suzdalev, and Andrew Cristall.

Alexander Suzdalev not listed on Regina Pats training camp roster, expected to begin season in Capitals’ organization

The WHL’s Regina Pats released their training camp roster on Monday and the most notable thing about it was who wasn’t on it.

Capitals prospect Alexander Suzdalev was not among the 59 players scheduled to participate as he is expected to at least start the 2023-24 season in the Caps’ organization.

In late July, The Daily Faceoff’s Steven Ellis tweeted out that Suzdalev’s final landing spot for the next year would be up in the air until after NHL training camp. While Suzdalev retains the option of heading back to Regina, he’ll first try to stick with either the Capitals or Hershey Bears.

Alexander Suzdalev will reportedly determine where he plays next season after Capitals training camp

Alexander Suzdalev had a highly successful first year of hockey in North America last season, posting 86 points (38g, 48a) in 66 games for the WHL’s Regina Pats. The 19-year-old winger was named to the league’s All-Rookie team and seemed primed for the jump to pro hockey according to reports out of Regina earlier this summer.

The Daily Faceoff’s Steven Ellis tweeted out on Saturday that the brakes may have been pumped on that decision. Suzdalev’s landing spot for the 2023-24 campaign seems to be still very much up in the air.
