Alex Ovechkin Hosts Private Skate with 35 Youth Hockey Players from Ft. Dupont, Is a Big Kid Himself (Video)

Monday afternoon, after surprising six-year-old Bensten Schone at his McLean, VA home, Alex Ovechkin decided– oh heck, let’s just make 35 more kids’ days too.

Ovechkin and Beats By Dre hosted youth hockey players from Fort Dupont’s Ice Hockey Club for a practice at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. Former Caps and current CSN Washington analysts Alan May and Brent Johnson joined in on the fun too.

While the event was sponsored by a multi-billion dollar company, Ovechkin did not spend his time shilling merchandise. Instead, he skated with the kids and was a big adorable goofball.

Caps Players Visit Bensten ‘B-Man’ Schone at Home

Just two months after a serious sledding injury, six-year-old Bensten Schone is back at home recovering with his family. Since the end of January, the entire Washington Capital community has rallied around B-man and watched his odds-defying comeback.

Alex Ovechkin Brings Adorable Four-Year-Old Russian to Washington After Winning Bauer Contest

During Wednesday’s practice, the Capitals welcomed a fourth Russian onto the ice. Four-year-old Maxim Goloschapov was flown from Moscow to Kettler Capitals Iceplex because he won a promotional campaign held by Bauer Russia.

A few months ago, Bauer asked their followers to “show us your hardest shot by putting it on Instagram with the hashtag #MX3Russia. The winner gets to go to Washington to meet Alex Ovechkin.” Teeny tiny Maxim won with these two videos.

Alex Ovechkin Gives Away Signed Stick, Fulfills Another Fan’s Wish

Alex Ovechkin is a top candidate for the Hart Trophy again this season. And if the national media has been paying any attention at all, Ovechkin will also be a finalist for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy at the end of the year too.

Ovechkin’s contributions to the community include giving away a car, fulfilling the wish of an 8-year-old with diabetes, going out on a sushi date with a 10-year-old with Down Syndrome, giving away countless sticks and pucks, and secretly supporting a bunch of Russian orphanages.

On Tuesday, the Capitals announced on Facebook that Ovechkin was fulfilling another young fan’s wish: Reagan Everett got a signed stick from the Russian Machine after Tuesday’s practice. According to the team he will “help cheer on the ‪Caps‬ during ‪[the Rangers game Wednesday] night!”

Still Giving: Alex Ovechkin Donates 70 Bags of Hockey Equipment to Orphanage in Moscow Region

Apparently giving away a car, fulfilling the wish of an 8-year-old with diabetes, going out on a sushi date with a 10-year-old with Down’s Syndrome, giving away countless sticks and pucks, and secretly supporting a bunch of Russian orphanages is not enough.

According to a press release from the Moscow Region’s ministry of physical culture, sports, and youth programs, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has donated 70 bags of hockey equipment to the Sergiev Posad boarding school, an orphanage operated by the Russian Orthodox Church.

Alex Ovechkin Presents Car to Washington Ice Dogs, Ann Schaab Calls Him “My Boyfriend” (Photos)

A few weeks ago, during All-Star Weekend, Alex Ovechkin went on a seemingly bizarre quest to add an eighth automobile to his fleet of fancy cars. After failing to win it during the Fantasy Draft and All-Star Game, Honda relented, giving Ovechkin the car once they learned why he wanted one so bad: he wanted to donate it to Ann Schaab, a young girl he went out on a date with earlier in the year, and her team, the Washington Ice Dogs.

It’s the feel-good moment of what could be Ovechkin’s fourth MVP season.

On Monday, Ovechkin accepted the vehicle at a special event held at Bill Page Honda in Falls Church, Virginia. Schaab got to sit in the car. She did interviews with local media. There were plenty of adorable moments.

Not the Car That Matters: Alex Ovechkin’s Good Deed and Its Lasting Impact on Ann, Washington Ice Dogs

“I think he said card,” Melissa Schaab said to her son Matthew. “I think he’s going to give Ann a card. Not a car.”

“But play the video again.”

That was the scene late Sunday night at the Schaab’s Laurel, MD home. Melissa’s 15-year-old son had been sent a video clip from his friends. It was of Alex Ovechkin speaking to reporters after his fifth career All-Star Game. The future Hall of Fame forward had mentioned Matthew’s sister.

The moment was unexpected, surreal.

“He means card. He’s going to send Ann a card.”

A 2015 Honda Accord is $22,105. A “Thinking of you” card by Hallmark is maybe $3.99.

He couldn’t mean car.

“Then I got on the computer and googled a little bit and saw more about it,” Melissa said. “It was all just sort of unbelievable. This is crazy. This is not happening.”

It was.

Alex Ovechkin Wanted to Win Car For Ann and Washington Ice Dogs, Honda Hooked Him Up After the All-Star Game

In news that will melt your heart, Alex Ovechkin got that car after all. After not winning MVP and not getting picked last in the All-Star Fantasy Draft, Honda presented Ovechkin with a giant key after the game anyway. Except it wasn’t actually for Ovi.

According to The Washington Post’s Alex Prewitt, Ovechkin secured the 2015 Honda Accord for the Washington Ice Dogs, a local hockey club for kids with special needs. Ovechkin skated with some of the team’s kids before the season. In October, Ovechkin went on a date with one of the girls, 10-year-old Ann, who has Down’s Syndrome.

Alex Ovechkin Sought Out Caps Fans in Crowd After All-Star Skills Competition, Tossed Them Stick

Last night, Alex Ovechkin was once again generous, giving away a bunch of pucks and his gear after the All-Star Skills Competition. We’re happy to report that the person who received Ovechin’s stick is actually a Caps fan.

Michael B., who goes by the nickname Moose, tells us that Ovechkin sought out him and his wife after the event.
