Eric Fehr Just Wants to Find a Good Home

Last year, Eric Fehr bounced around the lineup as Adam Oates struggled to find a spot for him. Some nights, Fehr would play center, not his natural position, on the third line. Other nights he would find himself in the press box, despite being one of the team’s top possession players. What he never got a chance to do was be a scoring-line winger, which the Capitals drafted him to be and a spot in which he’s shown promise in the past. Under Bruce Boudreau, Fehr also struggled to fit in, eventually forcing the Caps to ship him to Winnipeg for a fourth rounder and an irrelevant minor leaguer. With Barry Trotz, it looked like things might change, with Fehr starting the season on the top line.

“I just want to have a spot and consistently play, just not be moving around every night,” Fehr said in September.

Russian Bros Alex Ovechkin, Alex Semin, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Dmitry Orlov Reunite Outside Locker Room

Alexander Semin is having a rough time in Carolina. He has no goals this season and has been a healthy scratch. Saturday, though, Sasha Minor spirits perked up. Playing against his former team, Semin had seven shots attempts in a 3-2 loss. After the game, he caught up with his old Russian pals Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Dmitry Orlov. Ovi, in fact, eluded reporters postgame just so he wouldn’t miss his old friend.

Alex Ovechkin’s Booming Slapshot Leads to Nicklas Backstrom OTGWG (GIF)

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is the franchise leader in overtime game-winning goals with fifteen. And when he’s not winning games in sudden death, he’s assisting on the game-ending tallies.

Tonight, Ovechkin wound up to the moon and unleashed a gigantic slapshot from just inside the blue line. Canes goaltender Anton Khudobin made the initial save, but the shot was so heavy, it bounced off his pads right to Nicklas Backstrom. Nicky quickly shot at the yawning net, past a diving Khudobin.

Game over!

Killer Instinct? Caps beat Canes 4-3 (OT)!

A full sixty minutes of good hockey still eludes the Washington Capitals. Saturday’s bout with the Carolina Hurricanes almost shaped up that way, but the Caps let the Canes shamble away after the second intermission. And just like Tyreese on the Walking Dead with that creepy guy in the baseball cap, the Caps would regret not killing the bastards when they had the chance.

But they still squeaked out the W, and that’s what matters. Two in a row!

Eric Fehr drew a penalty in the first period, resulting in a hardworking power-play goal by Troy Brouwer set up by Marcus Johansson’s drive to the net. Jay Beagle made it 2-0 by scoring from an angle where it’s supposed to be impossible to score. The Canes got on the board late in the period with a nice goal by Riley Nash.

Eric Fehr scored a thrilling goal late in the second period, converting a turnover he forced, and then reaching wide to beat Anton Khudobin.

The Canes closed the gap int the third period. Jeff Skinner ripped off Eric Fehr in the D zone and set up Eric Staal for a one-timer, and then Justin Faulk got a shot off the faceoff through a bunch of traffic to tie it (Update: Lindholm tipped it, which explains why Peters couldn’t stop it).

With just seconds left in overtime, Nick Backstrom put Alex Ovechkin’s rebound in the back of the net like a flappy salmon.

Caps beat Canes 4-3 in overtime!

Eric Fehr Returns From Scratch-a-Palooza, Scores Goal in First Game Back (GIF)

Something about Eric Fehr rubs Barry Trotz the wrong way. Scratched for the last few games, Fehr returned to the Caps lineup on Saturday and quickly made his presence known.

Fehr drew a penalty in the game’s opening minutes, resulting in a Capitals goal on the power play. But that was just setting the stage for his own brilliant goal in the waning moments of the second period.

Trailing Jason Chimera in the offensive zone, Fehr scooped up the loose puck, weaved around the Canes, and reached to put the puck behind Anton Khudobin on the weak side.

Tom Wilson Pulls Up Lame While Skating, Suffers Lower-Body Injury (GIF)

Wilson grimaces.

During the second period, first-line winger Tom Wilson pulled up lame while back-checking Carolina’s John Michael-Liles. Wilson immediately left the ice and went down the tunnel to the locker room. The 20-year-old Caps was playing in the second game of a back-to-back.

The Caps say it’s a lower body injury and Wilson is questionable to return.

Here’s Alex Ovechkin Jumping on a Trampoline in Yellow Spandex (GIF)

We’ve all got our own ways of getting ready. I like to pound caffeinated drinks and do push-ups. When Alex Ovechkin got warmed up for Saturday night’s dance with and the Carolina Hurricanes, he did his own thing.

He put on yellow-and-blue spandex trousers and a short-billed baseball cap and then he went a-hopping on a trampoline.
