Caps vs Lightning pregame: Third time is the charm

Saturday night, the Washington Capitals get their third shot this season at the juggernaut that is the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Caps will not only look to take down the Lightning for the first time this season, but also extend their winning streak to four games and get Alex Ovechkin his 50th goal

Tonight’s game begins at 7 PM. If you’re out and about, you can stream the game on your phone and stuff from the My Teams app. Peter’s got recap duty.

‘He’s all in’: Jakub Vrana received lots of praise in the locker room after his first NHL fight with Yanni Gourde

The Washington Capitals will play their third game in as many weeks against the Tampa Bay Lightning Saturday at Amalie Arena. The Capitals have lost their previous two games against the league’s best team, who they eclipsed in seven games during the Eastern Conference Final last season. Some bad blood has developed.

During the teams’ last matchup at Capital One Arena, one particularly violent melee left Michal Kempny out indefinitely with a lower-body injury. Skill forward Jakub Vrana got in his first career NHL fight with Yanni Gourde.

Vrana spoke about the fight after the Capitals’ morning skate and said he dropped his gloves due to Gourde’s “antics after whistles,” according to the Washington Post’s Isabelle Khurshudyan.

Brett Connolly misses practice due to illness, is game time decision against Lightning

Like a band on tour, the Caps flu bug has landed at its latest venue: Brett Connolly’s body.

Connolly missed the Capitals’ morning skate on Saturday and will be a game-time decision against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Conno is the fourth Caps player to miss time due to this illness including Carl Hagelin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and TJ Oshie. Hagelin and Oshie both missed games.
