Alex Ovechkin Gives Puck to Tiny Caps Fan After Game, Kid’s Reaction is Priceless (GIF)

For the longest time, we’ve been subjected to the national media telling us that Alex Ovechkin is selfish, eurotrash, and a coach killer. So forgive me if this feels like the same old story, but here’s another article dedicated to how the Russian machine made a kid’s night.

After every home game, whoever from the Caps is selected as one of the night’s three stars tosses a puck into the stands. Ovechkin, second star against the Avalanche, came out out of the locker room and waved to the crowd. Then he handed a puck to a tiny Caps fan right by the railing.

Evgeny Kuznetsov is No Longer Terrible at Faceoffs Thanks to Jay Beagle

Before this season, Evgeny Kuznetsov had only played sparingly at center in his hockey career. But with the Capitals lacking in center depth, head coach Barry Trotz has tried to convert Kuznetsov and fellow rookie Andre Burakovsky into pivots. Both struggled earlier in the year, with Burakovsky getting scratched and eventually moving back to wing. But Kuznetsov has stuck and is finally adjusting to the new role. Against the Avalanche on Monday night, Kuznetsov was an offensive force, with four shots on net, a shot off the crossbar, and a myriad of drives past the Colorado defense.

“He’s got really good vision, he’s got great hands, and he’s skating well,” Trotz said after the game. “I think his puck protection has been really good, his detail in the D-zone has been really good. You get chances, you’re gonna produce. I think he’s a very talented guy.”

CSN Presents Alan May With An “Alan-May-Zing” Birthday Cake (Photos)

Wednesday is Alan May‘s birthday, so before he hit the road with the team CSN Washington preemptively gave him a birthday cake. If you were wondering if it went better than the disastrous time Locker gave Joe B a cake, you’d be right.

In front of an empty arena, May was surprised by friends with a custom-made cake, featuring an old hockey card, from the DC Cake Room.

Caps beat Avs 2-1, Ovi Takes Franchise Record for Game-Winning Goals

The Washington Capitals played exactly the right kind of game against Patrick Roy’s Avalanche on Monday. They had the puck a ton, they crashed the net for a depth goal, and they made the visitors pay for losing their temper. Would’ve been even better if the Caps didn’t hit the post eighty three times.

Jay Beagle, yes, Jay Beagle scored first– knocking in Tom Wilson’s rebound. Alex Tanguay got a beneficial bounce during a second-period power play to tie it up, but Alex Ovechkin gave the Caps back the lead with a power-play marker.

Caps beat Avs 2-1! The Caps are finally hot at home.

Alex Ovechkin Punishes Semyon Varlamov for Punching Tom Wilson, Scores Power-Play Goal (GIF)

The Caps’ fourth line, who had been irritating Colorado all night, drew a big penalty late in the second period. After Tom Wilson drove to the crease, Semyon Varlmov threw a left cross that hit the Toronto native square in the face.

Not really though. Varly got all face shield. Great acting job by Willy Baby.

Caps vs Avalanche Pregame: Schmidtuation’s Changed

Last year’s surprise superstars, the Colorado Avalanche, are now fifth in the Central Division. I expect the Dallas Stars to pass them this month, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Minnesota Wild turn things around, so the Avs might be in the division basement by season’s end. Bummer.

That said, they’re on a 3-game winning streak right now and have a hot goalie. The Capitals have the opportunity to run the Avs down tonight at Verizon Center. This upcoming weekend on the road is looking tough, so it’d be good to get out ahead tonight.

Puck drops at 7 PM on CSN-DC.
