How Tom Wilson can avoid getting suspended in the future

Last Thursday, I sat down with former Capital Andrew Gordon to catch up on life. Gordo just signed a three-year contract extension with SHL Linköping, and the Capitals had just dispatched the Pittsburgh Penguins. Due to something called Audio Drift, this podcast is coming to you a week late because we had to re-align the conversation by hand. 💀

Gordo and I talked about weird goalies, Alex Ovechkin’s leadership, Sidney Crosby (his friend growing up), Jakub Vrana and trust, the Caps finally getting over the hump, hockey contracts overseas, and how difficult multiple overtime games are. We also made predictions on who would make it to the Western Conference Final which is funny in hindsight.

The most interesting part of our conversation was about Tom Wilson and his most recent three-game suspension. Gordo had strong opinions because he got suspended for five games this season in the SHL due to a headshot. Gordo talked about what he learned from his experience and how Tom can avoid the same issues in the future.

The curse is over!

While our webserver was melting down in the wake of the Caps’ win over the Penguins on Monday, Ian and I got together to reminisce about Game Six, the Caps-Pens series, previous Caps-Pens series, the Caps’ history of playoff heartache, the really the entire crushing weight of all DC sports playoff heartache.

But really, this is a podcast about Nathan Walker.

Tom Wilson did nothing wrong

That’s what people think we think, at least. Really, the DOPS video was pretty eye-opening. Before the suspension came down, Ian and I got together to discuss the Caps-Pens series, Tom Wilson’s killing spree, and proper summer fashions for adult bros. All that and my unending torment at the hands of Leafs fans for one bad tweet.

That sounds pretty dire, but it’s actually a fun podcast. Check it.

The scorpion and the something: Silly conversations with Ian Oland and Adam Stringham

Just before Thanksgiving, we asked people to score each Caps player based on their performance relative to expectations. Around the same time I sat down with professional tired dad Ian Oland to unpack those rankings and discuss a Caps team that was struggling at the time.
