Capitals reportedly one of five teams trying to land Coyotes’ Jakob Chychrun in trade

Three days before the NHL trade deadline, discussions on the eventual destination of Arizona Coyotes’ defenseman Jakob Chychrun continue to heat up. And it’s looking increasingly possible that that destination could be the District.

Chychrun, who has 28 points in 36 games with the struggling Coyotes, requested to be traded by the Coyotes last year and has become a much-desired player this trade deadline due to his youth (24), overall skill, and the fact he has two years remaining on his contract.

TSN’s Bruce Garrioch reported that the Capitals, Kings, Hurricanes, Penguins, and Oilers were all considering a trade for the player as of Tuesday.

Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway registered their first points with the Boston Bruins. Of course, it came on the same goal.

It seems like Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway’s years of working together are paying off as they team up for the Boston Bruins. After suiting up for the Bruins for the first time on Saturday night (so weird), the two notched their first points with their new team Monday against the Edmonton Oilers.

In true storybook fashion, their points came on the same goal.

John Carlson and Anthony Mantha join Capitals on four-game road trip

During their broadcast of the Capitals-Sabres game on Sunday, NBC Sports Washington reported that both John Carlson and Anthony Mantha were accompanying the team on their current four-game road trip.

Al Koken noticed both players in Buffalo during the team’s dreadful 7-4 loss at KeyBank Center.

Welp, this is weird: Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway play first game as Boston Bruins

Following their trade Thursday night, former(!!) Washington Capitals Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway flew to join the Boston Bruins on their western road trip. Saturday night, they played their first game with the team against the Vancouver Canucks. Capitals fans have had several days to process the news of the trade, but it’s still bizarre to see the former Caps in a different uniform.

Capitals credit top players, team chemistry with 6-3 win: ‘We weren’t going to lose that game’

Saturday afternoon, the Capitals snapped a six-game losing streak in a high-offense endeavor versus the New York Rangers. Evgeny Kuznetsov and TJ Oshie each scored two goals in the game, with the latter earning his first career Gordie Howe hat trick. Postgame, Capitals players and Head Coach Peter Laviolette reflected on the win before turning their focus to Sunday’s game in Buffalo.

“It’s a big game,” said Laviolette. “I think guys knew that, and they responded well. I thought everybody was on point right from the start. Sometimes a one o’clock game can catch you, but I thought our guys were really good right from the first three, four shifts.”

The quintessential TJ Oshie game: two goals, one assist, and a fight. His first career Gordie Howe hat trick.

Even if it’s impossible, TJ Oshie seems determined to drag this Washington Capitals team into a playoff spot kicking and screaming. Saturday’s match against the New York Rangers marked Oshie’s 500th NHL game with the Capitals, and what a game he had.

Capitals players sad about Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway trade: ‘These guys are like brothers to us’

Just after 6 PM Thursday night, the Washington Capitals announced officially that they sent both Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway to the Boston Bruins.

Less than an hour later, the puck dropped for the team’s game versus the Anaheim Ducks. While the trade was not surprising, the timing of it — more than a week before the trade deadline — was. It represented a cold, turning point for a team that has so far desperately tried to remain in playoff contention.

For Capitals players, it also meant the sudden loss of two close teammates and friends.

TJ Oshie on Alex Ovechkin’s return: ‘He’s going to have an angel watching over him tonight’

When Alex Ovechkin returns to the ice Thursday night, TJ Oshie knows he won’t do it alone.

Captain Alexander Ovechkin is set to make his return against the Anaheim Ducks following the death of his father, Mikhail.

“I think it’ll make for an emotional return,” said Oshie, “He’s our leader, our captain. It’ll be super important to get him back. Just having him being around the guys, I think that alone will bring the spark that maybe we need to get out of this rut we’re in.”

Report: Alex Ovechkin expected back in Capitals lineup later this week

Alex Ovechkin’s personal leave will soon end.

ESPN’s Emily Kaplan is reporting that the Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin will likely be back in the Capitals lineup beginning with either Thursday’s game versus the Anaheim Ducks or Saturday’s game versus the New York Rangers.

Ovechkin has been away from the Capitals since Tuesday, following the hospitalization and death of his father, Mikhail, at the age of 71.

Liam Reigel joins Capitals for Make-a-Wish skate, scores goal on Darcy Kuemper with play-by-play from Joe Beninati

On Monday, the Capitals partnered with Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic to bring a little bit of magic to the ice, welcoming Liam Reigel to MedStar Capitals Iceplex.

Reigel, who hails from Eldersburg, Maryland, met with his favorite player Lars Eller, then laced up his skates and joined the rest of the team for the end of practice.
