Ahead of the first preseason game of the 2016-17 season tonight at 7:00 p.m., 18-year old rookie defenseman and 2016 first-round pick Lucas Johansen sat down to talk with CSN about his eating habits which are those of an absolute maniac.
To put on much-needed muscle and weight, seeing as he is 6′ 1″ and 174 lbs, Johansen has to eat.
And eat and eat and eat.

Team Russia and Team Canada faced off this evening in the World Cup of Hockey semifinals. Despite the final 5-3 loss, Team Russia took a 2-1 lead at the end of the second period thanks to Evgeny Kuznetsov.

The Captials have rolled out their new banners located outside the parking garage of Kettler Capitals Iceplex for the 2016-17 season.
The banners feature both past and current players from the team including T.J. Oshie, Matt Niskanen, Alex Ovechkin, John Carlson, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Nicklas Backstrom, Yvon Labre, Mike Gartner, Rod Langway, Dale Hunter and Braden Holtby (listed as “Holtbeast”).

Team Finland and Team Russia will face off in the World Cup of Hockey on Thursday at 3:00 p.m in Toronto. Finland has already been eliminated after Team North America beat Team Sweden 4-3 in overtime with that absolutely gorgeous goal from Nathan MacKinnon, but for Patrik Laine this game will be another chance to face his idol and our treasure, Caps forward Alex Ovechkin.

Braden Holtby hasn’t played or dressed in a single game for Team Canada during group play of the World Cup of Hockey. Tuesday night, however, the Holtbeast made a huge impact from the stands.

The Washington Capitals announced today that they raised over $17,500 from their Rock The Rainbow t-shirt campaign. The shirts were sold for $20 each after Brandi and Braden Holtby sported them in June’s Capital Pride Parade. The money raised will go to support the You Can Play Project to help ensure equality, respect and safety for all athletes, coaches and fans, without regard to sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
Awesome news, awesome people, all around awesome. Way to go, everyone (especially if you purchased a shirt).

On Saturday, September 17th a large contingent of the Caps organization took over the new Nando’s PERi-PERi in Arlington to help benefit Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation. The players that participated included Andre Burakovsky, Lars Eller, Stanislav Galiev, Nate Schmidt, and Tom Wilson. Additional members that helped out were Caps alumnus Paul Mulvey, PA Announcer Wes Johnson, the Red Rockers, Slapshot, Elliot In The Morning, and CSN’s Caps analysts Craig Laughlin and Courtney Laughlin.
It sure looks like everyone had a great time.

The ruling is still out on whether NHL players will be able to participate in the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, but today at media day for the World Cup of Hockey, Caps captain Alex Ovechkin made it clear to Pierre LeBrun that the ruling won’t affect his decision.
He will be there.
