During the 2012 WJC, Evgeny Kuznetsov told a fan he was a janitor to get out of a photo

Evgeny Kuznetsov has recently turned his trolling up to eleven. He tried – and failed – to enter a contest to win his own jersey, he started a TJ Oshie bobblehead collection, and he pretended to be TJ while wishing a fan a happy birthday.

It was that last post that prompted RMNB reader Alex Panteleyev to reach out to us via email with another story about Kuznetsov’s shenanigans. This time, from the 2012 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships.

Axel Jonsson-Fjällby scores game-winning playoff goal for Djurgården

Axel Jonsson-Fjällby’s impressive playoff performance continued on Thursday. Tied 1-1 in their postseason series with Linköping, Jonsson-Fjällby’s goal secured Djurgården a 4-3 win in Game Three.

Patrik Lundh set up Jonsson-Fjällby after Linköping failed to clear the puck from their zone. Jonsson-Fjällby took a no-look shot on net and scored.

Vegas Golden Knights become first expansion team in NHL history to hit 100 points in their inaugural season

The Vegas Golden Knights continue to make hockey history. Thursday, they became the first expansion team to record 100 points in their inaugural season.

Prior to Vegas, the benchmark to beat was set by the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers tallied 111 points in their third season (1981-82) and finished second in the league to the New York Islanders.

Brian MacLellan: John Carlson contract likely an offseason decision for Capitals

At the end of the 2017-18 season, John Carlson will become an unrestricted free agent. With the offensive season Carlson’s been having – he has tallied three goals in his last four games, and is tied with John Klingberg for most points by a defenseman with 61 – there’s little doubt that he has a huge payday coming in his future.

But, according to Craig Custance of The Athletic, Carlson may be on the verge of pricing himself out of the Capitals.

Olympic Gold medalist Monique Lamoureux-Morando to join NHL Network as an on-air analyst

Three-time Olympian, Monique Lamoureux-Morando, won her first Olympic gold with Team USA at Pyeongchang in February 2018. Monique scored the game-tying goal in the final and her twin sister, Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson, tallied the game-winning shootout goal.

The sisters later appeared on NHL Network’s NHL Now show to discuss their incredible experience at the Winter Olympics. On Wednesday, NHL Network announced that they were adding Monique Lamoureux-Morando as a permanent studio analyst.

On Wednesday, the Capitals held an optional skate at Kettler Iceplex. Braden Holtby, who started between the pipes during last night’s win over the Dallas Stars, was absent from practice.

Per the Capitals, Holtby was taking a maintenance day.

NHL general managers recommend Situation Room should resolve goalie interference calls

Goalie interference calls are subjective and have been the bane of the 2017-18 season. Every referee has had a different interpretation, leading to confusion and little consistency between games. Understandably, that lack of consistency made it one of the hottest topics at an annual meeting of all of the league’s general managers.

In a press release by the NHL, GMs overwhelmingly voted in favor of having the Situation Room in Toronto make the final decision on goalie interference.

Report: Capitals to sign Axel Jonsson-Fjällby to entry-level contract

As the NHL gets ever closer to the playoffs, Capitals prospect Axel Jonsson-Fjällby is already impressing in Djurgården’s run. Jonsson-Fjällby assisted on Jonathan Davidsson’s second goal, and added his own tally before the game was over, sealing Djurgården’s impressive 6-1 win over Linköping.

According to Hockeynews.se, Capitals assistant general manager Ross Mahoney was in attendance watching the youngster play from the press box. Per Hockeynews.se’s sources, and as translated by Magnus Cadelin, the Capitals have decided to sign Jonsson-Fjällby to an ELC once his SHL season comes to an end.
