The Washington Capitals were down 5-1 to the Vancouver Canucks with exactly 20:01 left to play in regulation. I’m here to tell you that those same Capitals beat the Canucks 6-5 in a shootout.
The Canucks out-shot the Caps 34 to 29 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 48 to 41.

- Look, overall this wasn’t a pretty game. However, I will spare you the complaining about how Evgeny Kuznetsov kinda wasn’t actually that good and that pretty much 90-percent of the roster was underwater in terms of shot attempt quantity and quality. This was a ridiculous win that should be celebrated with positives.
- The only four other times that the Caps have overcome a four goal hole to win a game occurred on December 23, 2008 against the New York Rangers, October 23, 1991 against the Edmonton Oilers, February 2, 1986 against the Hartford Whalers, and December 15, 1979 against the Rangers.
- Michal Kempny scored the Caps fourth and fifth goals of the game to tie the game in the third. This was Kempny’s first career multi goal game.
The Capitals are 6-1-1 on the road this season, and their six wins and 13 points lead the NHL.

- Carl Hagelin now has five assists in his last six games. Garnet Hathaway now has four assists this season and is well on his way to topping his previous career high of nine set in 2017-18.
- Ilya Samsonov recorded his fourth career win and tied his career high in saves at 29. Sammy has yet to lose a game that he has started and leads all rookie goaltenders (there are six of them so far) in wins.
- The Caps have both scored the most goals in the NHL so far (49) and allowed the most goals so far (43). A caveat to both of those points is that they are also the only team in the league to have played 13 games.
